Lets say Pac and Big Ten stand at 16 teams and ESPN and FOX come to those 3 and say here are the 16 teams among your 3 conferences that if you make a new conference we will pay a competitive amount. Who are the 16 teams? How do you split the 34 teams?

Each conference gets 4 autos with a bunch of factors to determine them including history and the rest play it out In a playoff for the final 4 spots.

ACC
Clemson
FSU
UNC
Miami

Big 12
Oklahoma State
Texas tech
Kansas state
Iowa State

PAC
Oregon
Washington
Stanford
Arizona State

And yes, this is list of 12 is up for debate

You won't get any from ACC because the GOR belong to the schools, not ESPN. No school can afford to leave. GOR is a success whether it is liked or not.

This thread might as well be titled, which 16 teams, not in B1G or SEC in near future, will be the best 16 team league setup.

I guess I will go with the following:

1. Arizona
2. Arizona State
3. Baylor or TCU
4. BYU
5. Clemson
6. Florida State
7. Miami
8. North Carolina
9. Oklahoma State
10. Oregon
11. Stanford
12. Syracuse
13. UCF
14. Texas Tech
15. Virginia Tech
16. Washington

On the cusp: Cincinnati, Louisville, Utah, West Virginia

Who the 16 are depends on which criteria are considered priority. Lately the criteria has been football viewership (w/o regard to recent performance) which translates to more media revenue. If that is still the priority, that list was posted on another thread so it is the top 16 from that list after you remove the Schools in the new SEC and B1G.

If it is the best football of recent, it is another list.

If it is attendance, it is another list.

If basketball or overall quality of athletic program, another list

Yada, yada, yada.

Yeah, my list had a couple with other factors. I think this league would want someone in heartland Texas. Not a lot of good options there so I went with a Baylor or TCU as both are pretty even. Neither move viewership very much.

I also think Virginia Tech gets in due to still having somewhat of a strong football pedigree even though I am not sure if they are in top 16. The only true no-brainers are Clemson, FSU, Miami, Oregon, Oklahoma State, and Washington. (I didn't count Notre Dame in the grouping btw because they are Notre Dame and it is doubtful they would jump to this league).

Yeah, nearly all on that list just don’t move the viewership numbers much….or at least enough to get networks to get excited to up the ante up more dinero for lack of a better term.

If you move recent football success criteria up in the priority list then there are a few more. But that criteria doesn’t seem to really matter now.

The biggest surprise on that list to me is Washington State and Cal being that high.

I am still puzzled a little about Virginia Tech as well. They are even towards the bottom of the ACC.

However, I think all of the stats people are showing is just 2022. I would be curious to see a 5-year span. For example, TCU is going to be high last year because they were in the running for a title.

Virginia Tech has a pretty sizable fanbase overall and they have the 4th largest stadium in the ACC (although it isn't big compared to B1G and SEC numbers).

I am not sure data is strong unless stretched over multiple years.

I knew Washington State was a little high based on some feedback. Also, Syracuse is one of the higher teams in the ACC as a surprise as well.

That’s fair. To be honest I should definitely remove ISU from the autos and give it to KU. Zona and zona state is a toss up imo. I think I’d keep it the way it is.
