Saw a post on twitter asking what if LA schools decide they dont like the travel anymore. What if OK and TX cant hang the way they though in the SEC?
Could they go back? what if the 4 joined together and invited some Pac and Big XII to join a new 16 team conference. who is in? what happens to the rest of the teams and if they combined or realigned would there be a good conference?

my opinion
New conference
USC, UCLA, OK, TX, UW, OR, Stanford, Cal, AZ, AZST, Utah, OKST, Kansas, KSt, TCU, Baylor

Left overs go 2 ways
WSU, ORSt, Colorado, BYU, TT, Iowa State, Houston, WVU, Cinci, UCF and add SDSU, Memphis, Boise, UTSA

TV contracts would prevent any quick take-backs. I think it would be at least 8-10 years before we saw anyone decide "it's not working" and try to strike out on their own or move again.

There’s gonna be an ncaa-less pan national league soon enough. What we’ve been experiencing these last years is just transition.

Probably not for a bit. My guess is that these realignments are locked in for many years -- in the same way that teams in the ACC are locked in for a few more.

Yeah, at least as far as USC is concerned, I haven't heard of any "escape clause" or anything that would allow them to leave early if they decide that they don't like the way things are going.

There may be one that hasn't been reported or there may be a way to negotiate something if they wanted out bad enough. But my bet is that they would have to at least stick it out for however long this initial agreement is.

Can't imagine the B1G going through the trouble of bringing them in without some assurance that they'll be there for several years.

As long as the big checks come in, all four will be perfectly content in their new homes.

What makes you think the four will have trouble competing in their new conferences?

Lmao no one is going back

they barely competing in the ones they are in on a regular basis now. OK and TX will have it harder.
honestly dont see USC and UCLA as a major trade up in competition other than Ohio State and as of late Michigan.

Yep, NCAA is just about done with football. Only a matter of time now.

They’ve definitely underperformed lately. More so Texas than OU. Look at A&M and Mizzou. Compare their performance the last ten years in the Big 12 with their first ten years in the SEC. I think you’ll find they are very similar. That’s why I think Texas and OU will perform about like they have in the Big 12 with one huge exception…OU won’t win a bunch of CCs in the SEC like the did in the Big 12.

Both will have records against the likes of Arkie, South Carolina, MissState, etc just like they did with Oklahoma State, K-State and Iowa State. They won’t get to the conference championship game as frequently in the SEC but Texas hasn’t done that much in the Big 12 lately anyway. Neither has OU the past couple of years.

Not a chance. There's no NIL money for some startup league where fans don't have engagement or fandom. Boosters love their college teams, and the money will always be there.

Plus, believe it or not, there are actually college football players who care about getting a degree.

I didn’t say it wouldn’t be tied to the colleges

The next realignment move is gonna wind up looking a little like this:

Super Duper Megabucks conference

Alabama
Ohio State
LSU
Michigan
Notre Dame
USC
Auburn
Tennessee
Penn State
Florida
Texas
OU
Florida State
Clemson

Maybe another two (Nebraska? A&M?)

And the rest will be relegated to tier 2 status and will fight for survival similar to how we are seeing the AAC/Big12/PAC ect. Doing now.

There will be no “going back” imho.

You obviously have no clue. Since the start of the Big 12 OU has more conference titles than the rest of the league combined.
