B1G to use "Flex Protect Plus" schedule in 2024 and 2025

Lost to 5-5 Missouri. 4-7 Mississippi State and got absolutely destroyed by a 6-5 Auburn team.

Plus totally non competitive against Bama and Texas A&M the 2 best teams they faced.

They werent awful but they were below average. They did upset Florida but their best win outside of that was against 5-5 Ole Miss

They were top 40 team by every metric. I wouldn't say that's below average by any means. My point is that 5-5 record needs to have some added context to it since there wasn't any OOC games.

Yea that's the only reason Auburn has been a meh mediocre-average team lately.

Never said that. They've been that because they've sucked. But they have had one of the toughest schedules in the country year over year.

They were 123rd in total defense and 35th in offense.

Terrible defense, ok but not great offense.

I don't see how that makes them a good team because you're tacking on a shitty OOC against some weak G5 schools to prop up their record. That LSU team was not good, any way you cut it.

I'm not saying they were good. I'm saying their record needs to have some context to it. They were top 40 by every metric. They were an above avg team, despite only being .500. They are likely an 8/9 win team if there are OOC games. So simply saying they were .500 without including the context isn't a fair argument.

Yes padding wins against soup cans would had made them look better. We know

They were 36th in the Massey composite and top 40 overall in terms of efficiency. 36th in SoR and 32 in GC.

They no showed against the 2 best teams they played and lost to 3 other mediocre teams. That right there is enough to tell me they were average AT BEST. (I still say below average)

No, that's not my point. They were who they were. A .500 team in the SEC. If we're win counting, like me and ATF we're earlier in the thread, they likely add 3/4 more wins. Much like MSU would have likely added 2/3 wins with OOC. So adding context to that season, LSU is likely an 7/8 win team and MSU is likely a 4/5 win team. It doesn't make their performance any better, just their win total.

Exactly. See my posts above about 8 wins not automatically making a team anything more than average.

Bama blew out everyone that year. Even OSU in the title game. They were an average team. I'd go slightly above, but my overall point, was adding context to their win total.

And I never called them a good team that year. Perhaps with a 4-0 record OOC, which would have included a win over Texas, and with more data points, they might have been a top 25 team. It was also a weird season, so putting to much stock in that year, doesn't make sense anyway.

Probably a toss up game with Texas. Of course they woulda beat UT-San Antonio, Rice & Nicholls.

I'd agree. It would have been at LSU, so home field advantage in that regard, but still a toss up. Sucks it never happened.

I mean LSU did lose to Mississippi State (who went 4-7) at home by 10 right out of the gate though.

True, but in a normal world that Texas game is in front of 100K people. Admittedly if they play like they did against Miss St, they probably lose. But, if they play like they did against UF, they probably win. Just depends which team showed up since the variance with them was very wide.

That Florida game was easily their best game of the year, i'd call it a outlier.

They beat down Vandy and South Carolina but both were horrible that year.

The other 2 wins they needed very late scores to beat 3-7 Arkansas and 5-5 Ole Miss

Obviously this is the Big 10s reaction to the SEC only playing 8 conference games. I had hoped the expansion to 12 would make teams schedule a little tougher. Apparently not.
