The official Michigan Owns Ohio State thread

It's funny how they forget that Harbaugh's system really didn't work that great for 6 fucking years, Now they act like it's some unstoppable train that will be sustainable forever after 2 years of success.
IF UM has a QB -- yes, it will be sustainable. They will be able to run the ball for sure. The QB position is the game changer. Harbaugh was left with nothing when he got to UM. He signed to be coach less than a month before signing day. So his 1st class had no QB. His first QB recruit was Brandon Peters --high ranking recruit, but zero pocket presence. So that put them another year behind. Then it was McCaffrey, another high ranking recruit. McCaffrey looked great, but in limited snaps, he broke his collar bone, then suffered a nasty concussion on a QB run. Then it was Joe Milton -- all the talent in the world, but couldn't learn the playbook and couldn't read a defense. Tennessee's single read offense is perfect for him. Then it was Cade McNamara -- he was a solid, but not spectacular QB -- didn't make many mistakes, but not a guy who will take a game over.

JJ McCarthy is BY FAR the best QB we have had since Harbaugh has been at UM and he will likely be a 1st round pick in the NFL, which is something UM hasn't had from a QB in a LONG time. The last QB from Michigan to be drafted in the 1st round of the NFL draft..............................Jim Harbaugh.

If 5 star Jadyn Davis struggles at UM -- we will see our team slide. It all comes down to the QB position for us.

Give me a good Offensive Line, and I give you a good Quarterback. Give me a good Defensive Line and I'll give you the head of a Quarterback to mount on you wall.

I’d be concerned about Davis considering his recent slide. Elite 11 reviews on him weren’t the best.

I don't put much thought into the shorts and tshirts events like that. A lot of guys will shine in drills with no defense or shine in drills with no pass rush. The perfect example for Michigan fans is Shane Morris. He skyrocketed up the rankings with his shorts and tshirt performance, but once you put a defense on the field -- it was a nightmare.

I agree, but you need a QB who can help make your offensive line look good at times when they don't do their job the best.

I will ask you this. Why do you think UM has won the last two years? You think it was luck? We don't have more talent than OSU. We don't have the big number of high end NFL draft picks. So what is it? I'd love to hear why you think UM has handily beaten OSU two years in a row.
In 2021, it was a methodic, consistent physical beating from michigan. They were without a doubt the better team that year. Yards/TOP/1st downs were almost exactly equal, but I didn't feel good the entire time. michigan was more physical and clearly was the better team as they moved down the field pretty much at will all day.

2022? Entirely self-inflicted wounds from OSU on both sides of the ball combined with some very flukey plays that went michigan's way. We moved the ball whenever we wanted, had nearly 50% more first downs, and won TOP. Stroud's first INT was a result of him holding on to the ball way too long and should've been an easy first down had he thrown it 2-3 seconds earlier. His second one deflected off Stover's hands right to a michigan defender. Those were back-breakers. Our defensive backfield was banged up (which was evident in a number of games) and what we had out there wasn't good, and we made JJ look FAR better than he actually is (and outside of 3-4 passes, he looked like shit that day).

Huh? I know On3 dropped him marginally in the rankings but this is the final 247 rankings of the elite 11. He came in fifth?

There aren’t many in the class who can pick apart defenses like Davis. His sweet spot is usually the short to intermediate parts of the field, but he showed in the 7-on-7 setting on Friday that he can push the ball to the deeper third. That’s encouraging for the future Wolverine as we haven’t really seen much of that from him during recent in-person evaluations.

That is actually 6th (Sayin took MVP and this is the next 5), but it's also still exponentially higher than any other outlet I can find that has rankings. Overall it was not good, and On3 dropped him more than "marginally".

Only ranked up to 11 and he wasn't there

The questions surrounding Jadyn Davis' place among the nation's elite quarterbacks continued to swirl amid an unsteady performance this week. Once the highest-rated quarterback in the 2024 cycle, Davis has slowly tumbled down the rankings over the last calendar year with two recruiting services — ESPN and On3 — now viewing him as a four-star prospect. The latter even dropped him from its overall top 100 list earlier this year. Though his motion is elongated, Davis threw the ball well enough on Day 1 to be ranked among the top 10 by most analysts in attendance. The trademark short and intermediate accuracy that launched Davis to the top of recruiting boards two years ago was consistently evident on Wednesday night. But then the wheels fell off Thursday in a subpar showing during the pro day circuit. Davis completed just 13 of 20 throws accurately and finished among the bottom five in total score to drop out of the overall top 11 entering Friday's finale. He bounced back slightly with some impressive throws in the 7-on-7 contest, but this week seemed to indicate there's a noticeable gap between Davis and some of the best quarterbacks in the 2024 cycle.

Ok. So we've now proven that recruiting rankings of subjective. But being "concerned" about a mini camp? I am not. Especially when there was a pretty clear consensus that he was great at the intermediate passes, which is pretty much our offenses bread and butter. This elite 11 camp has produced results all over the place in the past. I remember being super excited about Elite QB Devin Gardner's top rank in the elite 11 camp....

I don't understand the JJ slights. He's gonna be a 1st rounder IMO.

I'm not saying one way or another if Davis is going to be good, but he's obviously lost some favor in the recruiting community. I think he'll probably be a fine QB, but Harbaugh has to actually develop him.

He might be, but I think a lot of that is based on him being a 5* recruit than the actual results on the field. I wasn't impressed at all with him against OSU (as I said, outside of a small number of throws, he largely looked like shit) and obviously he wasn't good against TCU, Illinois, Penn State, and Iowa. He might be a first rounder, but I saw nothing from him last year that led me to think he has what it takes to be a pro QB.

I mean the NFL drafted Anthony Richardson in the top 5 and he was complete dogshit in college. I don't doubt someone would take McCarthy in the 1st round. NFL gets a big stiffy over measurables and perceived "arm talent"

The only thing I'm concerned about is if JJ leaves this year, other than Orji we're really banking on starting Davis as a true freshman next year, which is never good.

Orji? Lol you'd really want to maybe have to take your chances with guy who was a low rated 3*? Michigan has zero confidence in any of the backups they had on their roster considering they brought in a shitty Indiana QB to be the backup

If McCarthy leaves (likely) they are almost going to have to bring in a transfer.

I can't help but want Orji to succeed, for obvious reasons.

Given this likely scenario and our current abundance of riches at the position, I hope nobody gets an ideas of turning to the dark side.

I think it's going to be hard for any team to hold onto more than 1 talented QB on the roster at any given time in this day and age. As soon as it's "settled" and a starter is chosen, the other guy is going to bolt.

You're not wrong, especially if they're close in age. It seems like McCord is gonna win the job, so it wouldn't shock me if Brown left, which sucks because I really liked him. If he leaves I just hope he heads back out west.

Like...to those teams in other conferences like USC and UCLA? Lol
