Greg Olsen: 2001 Miami Could Compete with NFL Teams

Looking back at Miami from 2000-2003, they were honestly not good at all on the OL and DL, which are probably the two worst spots to suck. Outside of Wilfork (elite) and McKinnie (who was a decent NFL starter but nothing more), there was nobody on either side that would stand even the slightest chance. Also Dorsey looked like a drunk Gumby in the pros when he had actual NFL OLmen blocking for him, put him behind his college line (who was whipped into submission by Ohio State) and he wouldn't make it 5 plays before being carted off.
Yeah -- no college team would stand a chance against any NFL team. Every college team will have matchups in the trenches where they will get manhandled. There are no weaknesses in the NFL -- they are the best of the best from college.

It is silly for any player to try and say a college team would beat a NFL team.

They'd compete with them the same way TCU competed with Georgia in the title game last season

Even if Miami had multiple OL go on to become at least really good, if not elite NFL OL, they'd still get manhandled at a young age. However, they had none that even became anything at the pro level. It'd be a bloodbath. All the Sean Taylor's and Ed Reed's in the world aren't gonna make a difference.

The skill guys on both sides of the ball would be completely negated by what an NFL line can do. Offensive snaps would look like Tecmo Bowl plays when the defense guessed right.

Another thing I notice when people bring up Miami specifically, they don't talk about one year, it's always like taking 2000-2002 and acting like all the players in that timeframe were together all at the same time when they weren't. Like Sean Taylor was 17 in 2000. They also only won one title even with all that supposedly NFL-level talent.

They would have made for a good base of a franchise mode team in Madden or something, but yeah, the '00 Hurricanes weren't beating an NFL team.

There are levels to the game -- there are reasons why QB's who dominate in college struggle immensely in the NFL. Or position players who dominated in college and flop completely in the NFL. The speed of the game is vastly different and it is why it takes guys time to get acclimated to the game.
I love to watch the Hall of Fame game whenever there's a rookie QB taking a snap. It's almost always a drop back, they almost always get sacked, and then the camera shows their bug-eyed incredulous faces going "wow"

This absolutely made me crack up, as I just played Tecmo Bowl against my son today. He told me I must have been poor growing up if my video games looked like that.

Ken Dorsey woulda been pure comedy complete roadkill throwing against a NFL secondary in 2001 if that Miami team played against a NFL team., if he was able to actually get many passes off. Guy was only successful because the skill talent around him was vastly superior to most of their college competition. Even then he was still a under 60% passer in his college career. Hell look what happened when he did actually get thrown onto a NFL field, he sucked. 52% 8 TD 18 INT in 16 career games.

He was dreadful. OSU's defensive line put him in the hospital, an actual NFL defensive line would have him on a stretcher. It's just such a stupid argument.

Well old Kiffie boy said that when Texas and OU join the SEC it was going to be like the NFL. I'll see if I can find his quote.
I think he's proven beyond a doubt that he is definitely not an expert on all things NFL

You didn’t have to guess right. You could use that little jump tackle move with the nose tackle and bust every play almost every time. My NT’s smashed the sacks per game and sacks per season and led the team in tackles.

I think the top college football team would lose badly to the worst NFL team, but still fare better than the top college baseball team would against the worst MLB team
Well yeah. With a few exceptions, the best players on the college baseball teams are still years away and may never make it. The football players are only a year or two away.

Shotgun formation FTW in Tecmo Super Bowl.

The majority on players on the top college team will never even play minor league ball. Every player on the A’s has been through the minors. Either college team is gonna be at a major disadvantage when it comes to depth, conditioning and experience, the talent gap between the A’s and LSU would be huge
