Sometimes you get your little brother excited when you’re playing basketball and let him get the lead.

True Barry Switzer story that my friends told me about the day it happened: OU had played horrible in the first half at home with penalties, a couple of fumbles, broken coverages that allowed a cheap touchdown, nobody tackling worth a damn, etc. It's halftime and the players know Barry is going to ream them out. The position coaches are talking to everyone in groups but.....no head coach yelling at them. He's not in the locker room. It's getting late. The refs step into the locker room and tell them to get back on the field. FINALLY Barry comes into the room, looks at his notes, tosses his cigarette on the floor and rubs it out with his shoe, looks around at everyone in a locker room that is dead silent and Barry says with a disgusted voice "OK, girls, let's go". The place went wild and they roared out of the locker room and took care of business in the second half.

Another Switzerism I like , “It’s not about the X’s and O’s, it’s the Jimmie’s and Joe’s”. Lol.

“There are two kinds of people in the world, Notre Dame lovers and Notre Dame haters. And, quite frankly, they’re both a pain in the ass.”

ND Coach Dan Devine

"Defense wins Championships"
"Offense puts asses in the seats"

Signed,
Barry Switzer

I wish I could find a picture of mine.

In Jimmy Johnson's first year as Dallas coach, 1989, their 1-15 season, as they were getting walloped in a game a fan held up a sign saying "THIS AIN'T COLLEGE BALL JIMMY!!!"

Can't believe no one has mentioned the best of all time when it comes to college football quotes.

“In the interest of time, don’t get into any more fights today.”

This Leach-ism was dropped after some players were fighting in practice. Leach also said “If you get into a fight, don’t take your helmet off. We’re looking for smart players, not dumb ones”. Good advice for anyone in a fight on the football field.

[On referees, Comparing to Ham and Eggs] “As coaches and players, we’re like the ham. You see, the chickens involved but the pigs committed. We’re like the pig, they’re like the chicken. They’re involved, but everything we have rides on this.”

Nothing like a long winded, not quite relevant metaphor from Coach Leach – that’s half the reason we love him. An important difference to note is players and coaches aren’t slaughtered after the game – but sometimes it does feel close.

“It’s kind of like doing surgery with a chainsaw instead of a scalpel. We had pieces and parts flying everywhere.”

This quote was following an ugly first win with Texas Tech, against the University of New Mexico. Not a surgery I’d want.

“Well, we’re aiming for [the defense to allow] zero, but I imagine we’ll end up somewhere north of that.”

This one’s pretty self explanatory. They did, in fact, end up somewhere north of that.

“I ought to have Mikes Pirate School. The freshmen, all they get is the bandana. When you’re a senior, you get the sword and skull and crossbones. For homework, we’ll work pirate maneuvers and stuff like that”.

This was said in regards to A&M’s corps of cadets and how they “aren’t actually in the military”. Admittedly, Mike’s Pirate school seems much more enjoyable than being in the Aggie corps of cadets.

On the last quote, there is nothing gayer than this in CFB

They were the shits then.

No way any college team could beat the current Pokes.

Or many NFL teams for that matter. Boys playing men.

Maybe even CFL.

Times are much different and speaks to how bare the cupboard was for the Cowboys at that time
