tOfficial "Deion Sanders to Colorado" Thread

Colorado students camping out for tickets to the Colorado State game.
Colorado vs Nebraska was the highest rating PAC game ever on FOX.

Prime is doing something right because this program was dead.

Holy shit. I rennet 5.50 12 packs of natty light. Have to chug em in the Texas evening heat because if they started to get even mildly cold…. The taste. But for 5.50 that was high school prime time.

Sad to say, but way too many nights I got a sixer for $5 and change when the good beer ran out
In Morgantown in the mid 00’s a 24 rack suitcase was $7.90 at Kroger.

That was heaven.

What is the minimum number of games Colorado needs to win for Coach Prime to be named Coach Of The Year? Especially for a team that had one win last season.
How ever many it takes to get them to a bowl. 6 or 7

TCU could have hired him after Patterson was gone. LaDanian was pushing hard for the horny frogs to hire him. Scuttlebutt was the powers that be felt his baggage from Prime Prep was too close to the house and were worried about optics. The die hard football guys didn’t give a damn about optics. Supposedly it got pretty nasty.

I don't think you can argue TCU made the right hire. They don't make the playoffs with Prime coaching that team last year.

I agree. And Dykes is easy to like… like his dad was. My hometown has had a history with TCU football players dating back to the 40s /50s. We have a disproportionate number of TCU alumni because of that and I’m always hearing TCU blather. From what they tell me, Dykes was a compromise hire between the factions. Even the Prime Time side was okay after things calmed down.

Colorado reminds me a bit of USC last year. But the hole Deion is trying to dig them out of is deeper than what Riley had to deal with at USC.

While Helton wasn't good, USC still managed to win 8-10 games per season. That's not what Deion walked into at Colorado.

As we saw with USC last year, you can only rebuild 1 side of the ball at a time. USC had a lot of roster turnover...but Colorado replaced something like 83 players.

It also hurts depth. We saw that with USC towards the end of last season after they had lost some guys to injury.

I think Deion has done pretty well and he hired a good staff...but agree that this is likely a 6-6 to 8-4 level team. Just being bowl eligible would be big considering how bad they've been.
Riley could've helped himself out by leaving Grinch back in Norman, though. Their defense might at least be respectable.

By “hype wave” do you mean Deion alternatively gloryhounding when they win and then bitterly pointing fingers when they lose?
We’ll have to wait and see on that last part.

Hasn’t he been already?

I'll give Sanders his due, he's a lot better than I thought, he's definitely got the accuracy. But yea it's definitely too early to be saying he's a top 5 draft pick or even a 1st rounder.

Problem with these Pac 12 QBs though is that the pass Ds in the conference are just so bad it makes it hard to properly judge them. It's no coincidence that Michael Penix and Bo Nix who were terribly mediocre QBs in other conferences were able to step right in and sling it at wilwill
Penix was able to come in and perform right away because he had already ran that offense under those coaches and finally had a line. Didn't hurt that he also had 3 top level receivers to run in front of him.

It was a new team, but the staff knew him and he knew what they wanted. There's a reason Grubb is the highest paid OC in the conference.

That said, it's also true that there are no top tier defensive secondaries in the Pac either.

His health was a major factor.

No top tier secondaries is putting it lightly. Stanford finished as the highest rated Pac D in the Pac 12 last year, and they were 40th in the country

They had 8! teams finish ranked 100th or worse nationally

Sure, but the conference also had at least 4 of the top QB's and offenses to go with them.

How many other D's would have had lower stats with the same kids having to run through all of those?

It cuts both ways.

We could argue all day if it's terrible defense making the pass offenses look great or great offenses making the defenses look terrible.

It was like that back when with the SEC, the "When is it just bad offense and not great defense" argument.

It looks better this year than last year. But we'll see what happens when they face a good team. Last year, even the bad teams would move the ball on them, but the defense was forcing a lot of turnovers. So far this year, they've actually stopped teams.

I'm not sold on Grinch, but I'm willing to give him a couple of seasons.

I think Box Nix tearing up the league makes the argument that it's just bad defense credible.
That same Oregon team that has featured a stout offense for years and had NFL ready talent around him?

Look, I don't think he's a Heisman candidate level QB, but he's quite a bit better than he was able to play at auburn.

Again, it isn't either/or. It was a combo of both. More than half the conference had tough offenses to go against and no defense rose above it.

Not going to be much different this year either.

It's a similar situation OSU fans are in with Knowles. His first year left a whole lot to be desired, but that'll happen when you overhaul your defense. Similarly we've looked better this year but the competition hasn't been great. They'll get a good test this weekend with WKU's passing offense so we'll see. I'd have to guess if neither defense steps up this year they way they should, both defenses will be needing new coordinators next year.

Defense still looks way too confused at times (especially when the other team has pre snap motion) for a team entering it's second year under the DC.

They've been able to get away with it so far, but better teams are going to be able to exploit the fuck outta that if they don't get it together.

Indiana is just a awful offense and YSU is a middle of the road at best FCS team. So of course they looked pretty good for the most part regardless with 4/5* talent at all positions vs scrubs.

I don't disagree. The first drive of YSU's was annoying but then they got it together. Needless to say, though, I bet the over in Saturday's game and taking WKU+29.5.
