Shocking Lincoln Riley Lying Again

I had a real internal wrestling match in my head about Lincoln Riley.

I had come to the conclusion that we would never win another National Championship with him.
I also knew he would win a shit ton of games and conference championships........ So what to do.??

I had already set my mind for a change.
I thought I might be dead before we are able to get him out, then POOF, he up and leaves.

I should be careful what I wish for, because it happened.

I couldn't be happier about it though.
Don't know if Brent Venables is the answer, but it's more fun to think you might make it, rather than know you'll never get there.

A high proportion of yearly scholarships went to the Offense, so the Defense was never going to stand a chance, no matter how good they were. Simply no quality depth.

In California, I believe it will be much easier for him, because of recruiting.
He may be able to fall into enough defensive talent at USC to make up for it.

Switzer always said the USC Coach saw more talent driving to work, than there was in the entire State of Oklahoma.
I think he had a point.

It's too bad it didn't work out better at the end, but it's done and over.
On to the BV Era.

We've had 3 Head Coaches quit and go to another job.

Jim Tatum left and went to Maryland after the 1946 season, and won a National Championship there.
Next Coach up, Bud Wilkinson

Chuck Fairbanks left to coach the New England Patriots after the 1972 season.
Next Coach up, Barry Switzer

Lincoln Riley left to coach USC
Next Coach up, Brent Venables

The point being, it all works out.

FWIW

Jim Tatum: Final season (8-3)
Bud Wilkinson: First season (7-2-1)

Chuck Fairbanks: Final season (11-1)
Next Coach up, Barry Switzer (10-0-1)

Lincoln Riley: Final season (11-2)
Brent Venables: (6-7)

The thing your data can’t include is the effect of losing so many skill position players. NIL is new. Things went down a little bit every season Riley was here, just facts.

There you have it:

Wilkinson. Switzer. Venables.

Hey
Riley didn't want to be here.
That's ok.

There was never going to be a good way to leave.

I think all parties are better off.

Moving on.
I think it’s like marriage. Once you decide it’s not going to work out or you’d rather be elsewhere, it’s time to get out. Don’t wait around for someone else’s sake.

Problem is Colorado is going to dominate college football for the next decade and @outofyourmind will probably be dead before it ends.
He needs to follow my plan. When I eventually hit about 78 years old I'm going to have a sex change operation and become a woman. Women live a long time and I'll be set. My motto will be "Come and get it, boys!".

New motto, same as the old motto.

Based on this thread, your transition has already started.

You know, Riley might not have wanted to be here for years by the time left.
Oh I don’t know, I really think it was just that last year. We owe him though, him being told no on some things and then leaving made the answer to some of the same stuff be yes for Venables.

I doubt any of those coaches took players with them including the next seasons Heisman winner.

I’ll just die I’m good with it.
