According to the intergoogle, National Spring Football League Enterprises owns the USFL and its teams. Apparently, that company is a joint venture between Brian Woods and Fox Sports. So, I guess, they really own the league.

And merging the two leagues makes a lot of sense. The quality of the product on the field will go up and with Fox Sports involved, there is already a TV partner to show the games.

Yeah, there's just not enough talent out there to field two alternate football leagues. What I'm more curious about is the XFL had been flirting with the NFL about being more a true minor league. It was something The Rock has had reportedly been pushing. With the merged league, I wonder if that'll still be the case because under these circumstances, it would make even more sense.

Agree. No way they could survive competing against each other and the NFL.

Not to mention that, in the spring, they're competing against the NBA right when a lot of folks are starting to pay attention to it because you have playoff races heating up and the playoffs starting.

USFL > NBA

Oh sweet, even more teams to play in 2-3 "host cities" for $5 a ticket.

Can't wait to score my Wichita Rallycats season tickets to watch the games in Arlington, Virginia.

Arlington Renegades the true b league champs. They would destroy Birmingham. Arlington don’t play that shit.

A few facts are staring to come out:

1. Exploring a new name for the combined league but not confirmed.
2. Most likely 10 to 12 teams and teams that haven’t secured playing fields like Vegas are on the chopping block.
3. Canton Ohio has secured a field so a team will definitely be moving there so a team like Vegas might have a second chance.
4. New league wants primarily a network deal and stay away from cable channels with the exception of ESPN.

That’s where the rumors are now.

I just got my season etickets for the Escondido Firesox games played at the Omaha Sportsplex!!!

So this appears to be a done deal just waiting on regulatory approval, which should be a problem:

"Subject to customary regulatory approvals and if the transaction is consummated, the new league will establish best-in-class operations based on the most recent seasons of both leagues," the leagues said in a joint statement.
