It’s Fuck Meatchicken week

“It's kinda nice to see Nebraska trash talking the Wolverines, but no one is putting their avatar where their mouth is

“As bad as Nebraska is they've got a good Rushing Offense and a good Rushing Defense. Being in Lincoln, I could see Nebraska covering the +19.5.

I'd do an avy bet on the spread.”

“Negative ... Michigan hasn't covered a spread this year.”

Asking for a fair point spread isn't evil, but Michigan has not been covering this year. I wouldn't give Sparty a spread, because I just don't trust that team. They are having a bit of hard times right now, but I believe them to be dangerous.

Nebraska's bad for sure, but what is Michigan good at through 4 games of a cupcake schedule at home?

East Carolina 30-3
UNLV 35-7
Bowling Green 31-6
Rutgers 31-7

Basically they're good at defense, but are they? Seem more of a paper tiger.

Scoring Defense (1st)
Rushing Defense (12th)
Passing Yds Allowed (7th)
Total Defense: (3rd)

Let's have a look at their opponents offenses thru Week 4.

Scoring Offense
East Carolina: 99th
UNLV: 43rd
Bowling Green: 119th
Rutgers: 84th
Nebraska: 101st

Rushing Offense:
East Carolina: 92nd
UNLV: 39th
Bowling Green: 94th
Rutgers: 43rd
Nebraska: 6th

Passing Offense
East Carolina: 120th
UNLV: 104th
Bowling Green: 106th
Rutgers: 123rd
Nebraska: 126th

Total Offense
East Carolina: 128th
UNLV: 78th
Bowling Green: 117th
Rutgers: 111th
Nebraska: 89th

Time of Possession
East Carolina: 81st
UNLV: 117th
Bowling Green: 73rd
Rutgers: 50th
Nebraska: 34th

Michigan has yet to play a road game. I could see this one being closer than the experts think (Michigan -19.5).
No offense, but playing Nebraska only adds to Michigan's cupcake schedule thus far. We don't face a real team until Penn State.

But what are your thoughts on how #2 Michigan has handled those 4 cupcakes thus far. In Ann Arbor no less.

East Carolina's best (and only) win was Gardner-Webb.
UNLV's best win was (2-3) Vandy 40-37 @ UNLV
Bowling Green's best (and only) win was Eastern Illinois. They lost to Ohio U 38-7 @ BG.
Rutgers best win would either be (2-2) Northwestern or (1-3) Va Tech. Both home games for Rutgers.

Nebraska's 35-11 home win over Northern Illinois is arguably better than any of those Michigan wins. Northern Illinois got a garbage TD with :04 remaining and the 2 pt conversion. Otherwise it's 35-3.
Northern Illinois won @ (1-3) Boston College who took FSU to a 29-31 loss.

Does Michigans SoS go down after next Saturdays win?

I’m assuming it does.

I think OOC is pointless and it will only get worse with these super conferences as more and more teams will schedule nothing but cupcakes. Michigan isn't showing anything in these games. These are glorified scrimmages. For Michigan, It gave them a chance to get players healthy without worrying about losing. It also gives them a chance to give guys some experience before later in the year when they are playing real games.

Michigan doesn't play a legit team until they play Penn State. No offense to Nebraska, but the only thing they have that could hurt UM is the running QB. UM seems to have issues with it. I don't think it will be a blowout, but it won't be particularly close either.

In reality -- Michigan's schedule is essentially 2 games. Penn State and Ohio State. The rest of the schedule are cupcakes. We were hoping MSU would be good, but they look like a train wreck. Michigan will be favored by 3 or more scores in every other game.

2023's schedule for Michigan isn't one to brag about, that's for sure. It is a shame, as this will be the best UM team we've had and next year we lose like 18 starters to the NFL

1997 Champs vs 1997 Champs winner takes all loser is 2nd place officially LFG!!!

Winner of this game will officially be recognized as the 1997 National Champions LFG!!!
Wouldn’t that actually be a great trophy. Whoever wins the game gets to keep both AP and Coaches trophy until the next meeting

Last year we didn’t pass for the first half of the season and people were all concerned. Then we lit up Ohio state. I think this staff actually does just win in the most minimal way possible as to show nothing.

Not to mention we have yet to have double digit points scored on us.

I hear that’s actually official.

🤷‍♂️

Not trash talking Michigan. Just putting the stats up there for all to see.

I've called out their paper tiger defenses in the past on Euro-hoop. TrustMeIAmRight (a.k.a WhoPhoneDis) argued with me for a solid week prior to Penn St ripping that top ranked defense a new asshole 42-13. Penn St's offense was better than Nebraska's is now though.

I do think Harbaugh plays it conservative offensively early in the season to build fundamentals for when competition gets more competitive. It's worked well for them the last couple of seasons come Penn St and Ohio St weeks.

If this were in Ann Arbor I say Michigan covers the -19.5 with ease.

However, it's in Lincoln and Michigan's first road game.
The (12-2) 2021 Michigan team escaped Lincoln with a 32-29 win on a last second FG after an Adrian Martinez fumbled at the Nebraska 34 yd line. Michigan trailed 29-26 with just 4 minutes to play before tying it at 29 with a FG.
Yeah that (3-9) Nebraska team who like all the other Nebraska teams of the last few years finds a way to shit down their leg late in a game.

As bad as Nebraska is they've got a good Rushing Offense and a good Rushing Defense. Being in Lincoln, I could see Nebraska covering the +19.5.

I basically said that before both of you did. I remember defending Michigan last season (or the one before) when they were being criticized for looking flat early on. Building basic fundamentals early has paid of for Harbaugh the ;ast couple years when they get into tougher games.

Nebraska being their first road game and having decent rushing offense and defense is likely going to take Harbaugh out of his play conservative formula.

Due to Nebraska's propensity to shit down their legs come 4th Q I expect Michigan will win. I simply questioned the 19.5 pt spread which is down to 18 now, so there are obviously some bettors that felt the same way.
The O/U at 40.5 is where I expected it to be.

I just need Sims to be Sims and we’re all good.

Michigan has essentially an entire team of upper class players starting for them. Even the two or three true sophomores that start played a ton last and are two of our better players (Will Johnson and Colston Loveland)

In regards to having to go on the road -- it isn't a big deal. We returned almost our entire team from last year. They've played a ton of road games. If it were 2024, when we will be replacing almost our entire starting lineup, including the QB -- then I'd say having to go on the road could be an issue.

With play calling -- Michigan isn't going to change anything. The only team you see different play calling from Michigan is against OSU. Michigan plays conservative -- they don't use a hurry up, they don't take a ton of deep shots -- they wear down opposing teams in the trenches with long drives.

I just need Sims to be Sims and we’re all good.
Sims is the only guy on Nebraska's team who worries me. He can really run the ball. If he takes care of the football, I can see the game being competitive. If he doesn't -- I can see the game looking like the 1st 4 games.

Right?

If I'm Rhule I make Sims a permanent back-up to Haarburg.

Use this year that nobody expects much anyway to develop the rest of the team. Haarburg's not gonna lose the game for the rest of the team like Sims does.

He doesn't though. He didn't at Ga Tech either.

He was directly responsible for 8 turnovers in the first two games. Either INT's, mishandled snaps, or just fumbles.

There is always that game where he does -- you just never know when it will happen.
