Daily Trivia

Yeah, he did. Of his career home runs, only 28 were over the fence.

Lloyd Moseby was my first "favourite" player, he and Willie used to show up on all of the same leaderboards.

A player, John Miller, homered in his first at bat and his last at bat. Those were the only 2 home runs of his "career".

One more tidbit on triples. In 1943, Stan Musial had more triples(20) than strikeouts(18) in 700 PA.

Complete shot in the dark.

Mickey Mantle and Ted Williams?

Ted's final at bat was of course a HR but his first was a K. Not sure about Mantle's first but he is not correct.

I found the answer to this question while checking the veracity of another trivia question that I had read as a child (it turns out that one was incorrect/false, I will tell it after this question is answered)

In 1938 Johnny Mize did not even attempt to steal a base but led the NL with 16 triples.

Stan Hack led the NL that year with 16 SB. Seemed to not have been a big part of the game.

Oh for sure it wasn't but zero is zero in any league and it's still very odd when the two stats don't run together at all, for instance Hack had 11 triples himself that season and finished 6th in the league.

I know the pitcher is Hoyt Wilhelm. I have no idea who the other guy is. Gonna guess Luke Appling

Wilhelm is indeed one of them. Appling is not the other.

As a young child I read somewhere that Hoyt was the only player to hit a HR his first time up and a triple his second time up and never hit another of either one. This is not accurate however, Hoyt actually hit his only triple halfway his second season

I have no idea who the other one is. I’m assuming it’s not an obvious member of the 500 clubs.

Luis Aparacio?

Had to look it up.

Never even heard of the guy.

I’m gonna keep guessing AL Central pre expansion teams players. My gut tells me that’s where to focus my energy
