Big 12 In Talks To Add Gonzaga, Eyes Basketball Super Conference: REPORT

It appears Gonzaga's dreams of joining a major conference aren't dead just yet. Talks are underway to join the Big 12.

It appears Gonzaga’s dreams of joining a major conference aren’t dead just yet. There had been some chatter several months ago that the Bulldogs could be in the mix to join the Big 12 as a basketball member, but those dreams appeared to die when the conference chose to add Utah, Colorado, Arizona and Arizona State. It appeared the door had been shut for good on Gonzaga’s hopes of getting out of the WCC. To quote the great Lee Corso, “Not so fast, my friends.”


Of course word on the street, it would be a discounted revenue model in a structure like SMU but no details have been released.

I heard a long time ago, why would Gonzaga want this.. They said they have it made in the conference they are in. They own it.
It was said that it would be a big gamble for them.

Just what I remember from somewhere.

Money and exposure. The B12 has great bball brands. Getting to play the likes of Kansas, Arizona, Baylor etc. is a huge upgrade. They're past the point of them being good only because of conference affiliation. They have been a top 10 program for like the last decade at this point.

u know we actually beat Gonzaga.. in hoops right? Don't blame you for not noticing it though, it's hard to keep up with sports outside volleyball :)

Gonzaga needs to think hard about what they want to do because they aren't going to play week in and week out in the Big 12 and not take losses and not have injuries. Baylor, Kansas, Texas Tech and the other schools aren't just going to hand them a trophy every year like they are used to.
