It's not a bad move and ends a 19-year run as an independent but I don't understand why they are doing football only as I imagine joining with all the sports would make scheduling a lot easier.

One interesting twist is that the Army vs Navy game is not included in the agreement and both will meet each year on 2nd Sat in Dec as a non-conference game. That is great for Army and Navy holding onto their cash cow but I'm not sure why the AAC would agree to it.

The second twist is if by some miracle both teams finish in the top two they will meet in the AAC Championship on the 1st Saturday in Dec and then again in the 2nd Saturday. No idea how that would impact the Commander and Chief's trophy.

This leaves just 3 independents in FCS:

Notre Dame
UConn
UMass

so they will only have spots for 3 non conference games. and i would assume somehow Air Force will always occupy one of those spots as well.
theres going to be a lot of teams looking for games pretty soon.

not to mention Big Ten and SEC counted Army as a P5 for their schedules

I believe Navy is football only as well. This helps keep their non revenue schools local

I don't know where that rule is right now but I believe all the service academies regardless of conference affiliation, ND and BYU counted as P5 substitutes for the requirement. Obviously with the PAC folding and the B12 expanding that rule is going to need to be revised because even if the SEC goes to a 9-game schedule the P5 requirement isn't going away.

I checked Army's schedule and the only P5 schools they had were Syracuse, LSU and Boston College so it's not a ton of games that need to be replaced.

Syracuse LSU BC were this year

24 is Ball State, Uconn, Syracuse, Dartmouth, Rice, UNLV, AF, Umass, Wake Forest, Navy

keep AF and Navy, maybe Cuse for money and Umass for a W
Rice is AAC
that still means half the schedule needs new games

25
Marshall, Kstate, Marist, Liberty, Syracuse, Uconn, Lafayette, AF, Rice, WF, Umass, Navy, Tulsa

so again keep Navy AF, Kstate, Umass
Rice and Tulsa in AAC
7 teams need new games.

They should be in the Ivy League
I concur.... They just don't have the means to appeal to most athletes, so they are confined to finding players that want a military career first & then maybe Pro sports after their term of duty is done. ( David Robinson comes to mind).

They can definitely get some good players, just not enough of them. I realize the government likes to use them as recruiting tools, though, so the programs will stay in FBS

They are Patriot League for everything else, so scheduling for other sports is not an issue.

Go Army! Beat Navy! And anybody else besides Iowa State and Alabama.

I like it, just wish they’d add Air Force as well.

Also the Marines need to get their shizza together and get a football team too, merge with the Coast Guard if ya have to..

The Marines go to the Naval Academy so that is their team.

The Coast Guard has a DIII team.

Adding Army gives them 15 so AF would be a good 16.
keep the Army Navy as an OOC but make AF have both as guaranteed games each year.
would be a lot of increased travel for AF tho.

Wrong, the Navy is small part of the Marines, Ol Jarhead told me so…
