Arizona Running 240 Million Budget Deficit To Cut Sports

It's the university, not the AD.
Oh wow -- I thought they miscalculated the athletic budget by $240 million. :pound: I was going to say -- something is definitely up. Still...$240 million -- that really takes some inept people running the school to be that far off.

For the love of god -- $240 million? That isn't easy to do. They need to hire an independent auditing firm to go over their books, as someone had to be either syphoning funds or you have a lot of incompetent people working in your athletic department.
Affirmative action hires. Just close your eyes and picture who they are.

Oh yea, that money didn’t just put on its pants and walk away.
And… I hear tell that Arizona has some very beautiful coeds that one could spend a lot of money on if one would ever chose to do so….

The thread title needs two commas to make it clear.

OP is as good with basic punctuation as he is numbers.

How do you fuck up that badly

In French they use commas as decimal points... hey wait a minute, maybe that was the cause of this problem at Arizona, does the university president perhaps have a degree in French? :noidea:

i dont know how much money thier non ncaa sports get but cut those first. Rugby and their mens ice hockey isnt, it could be.
get rid of cross country most of those kids prob still have track. I cant imagine beach volleyball is huge in the Big XII.

I would imagine Football both basketball teams both baseball and softball are way safe. maybe womens golf (2018 NC)

They have 23 sports and most B1G schools have like 17 so there are 6 easy cuts.

The 240mm budget shortfall isn't all on the athletic budget and if I had to guess you are looking at 55mm that the University loaned athletics during COVID and they probably ran around 20 million deficit due to the shortfall in PAC payments over the last couple of years.

The Athletic department just needs to take out a long-term loan and pay the university back but that still doesn't solve a 165mm issue that they have but their endowment is 1.2 billion so they will need to make some tough choices but the smart move would to make themselves solvent through the endowment and put in new leadership across the board including the Trustees.

They were idiots for letting some professor make headlines that panic people and make you look like an insolvent entity. This will hurt them in enrollment and recruiting.

Isn't Arizona the school that started a women's rowing team (no experience necessary) in the desert a few years back to meet Title IX requirements?

I believe at most schools there is very little (and sometimes no) funding for club sports, no?

if they did they got rid of it already.
maybe thats the beach volleyball tho

You technomological youngsters help an old man out here. Would you find how much the athletic department alone was in the hole? I'll bet it is a small percentage of that $240 million.

Fentanyl is cheap here so it's possible they were just really high.
