Oh, we driving.

I’m still trying to decide if I want to go through the hassle of getting my own Sunpass or just say fuck it and pay the rental company $13 a day for them to do it, even though I’ll probably be using like $13 worth of tolls total for the whole trip.
We just did this in January, our mystery car turned out to be a pickup truck. But the guy at the rental counter changed it for us to a sedan. We also didn't pay their 38$ toll option, and ended up only racking up about 12 bucks worth of tolls.

How did you pay them without the sunpass

They took pictures of the license plate and sent the bill to the rental company. Then they charged the card we had used for the rental. The only toll road we used was the Reagan
Oh sweet. Didn’t know it was that easy. Figured there would be some sort of “fine” associated with doing that, be it from the state or from the rental company.

Nah, it was easy. We have that here as well, if people don't have EZ Pass, the toll authority sends you a bill in the mail based on your plates

Yoooooo who did you rent from in FL? The sunpass website says most of the big boys have fees

Hmmmmm

Customers may opt-in at the counter or upon vehicle return, before the rental agreement closes. Customers who do not purchase e-Toll Unlimited for their rental vehicle at the time of rental, but use cashless toll lanes without another payment method approved by the toll authority, will be charged the cost of each toll at the toll authority’s highest undiscounted toll rate PLUS an administrative fee. AVIS/BUDGET customers: $5.95 per calendar day when tolls are incurred ($29.75 maximum administrative fee per rental month).

Sounds like they thought you were a QT by not charging them fees

I rent all cars through Costco. Always found them cheapest. They use Alamo budget and hertz. And I keep cancelling because the price drops

I don't know about all that, they gave us an option of paying a flat fee for the entire rental, or getting billed for the tolls we used. We did some quick math and thought we'd come out cheaper if we avoided the flat fee. Dude never even mentioned Sunpass.

Hmmmmmmm. I’ve got cash back deals on my Amex for Hertz, budget and Avis right now, but I’ve got to pay ahead. There’s way too much math to figure out if I should skip it and pay at the desk if I can get the deal you get, add the toll pass and get the cash back or just go to a cheap place.

Yeah. There are some shifty ones out there

Sixt comes to mind
Only meh experience I’ve had renting a car at a cheapo was in Orlando.

Between the Indian guy at the desk trying to talk really fast to con me into stuff, the hefty white gal in her office taking weird “suggestive” selfies with her feet on her desk or the two fellas who look like they came from shooting a rap music video when I brought my car back, they said I returned the car two hours after I did and it added $25 to the rental. I didn’t GAF since it was still like $20 a day to rent from them.

I get a sick discount on hertz through our corporate account, but I have heard decent things about Costco.
Those corporate discounts are usually pretty meh compared to online rates.

Wanna bet?
