I have a ton of landscaping with some severely overgrown devil weeds and vines that are killing my trees. My tractor is too big to go through and mow down so I am at a quandary for options on how to proceed.

I could go old school and spend every waking hour of everyday pulling this shit up. Nope, not my thing.

So my bright idea is to get a Stihl FR91 trimmer, upgraded engine from bottom models and larger tank, and add in a disc that looks like a circular saw. Get em down to ground and clear them out and then spray some killer on top.

Problem I have is I do not want to lay out that cash before I go on vacation. Those products are not cheap. I also have very very limited experience with 2 strokes and their care.

I can get the FR91 for about $300 and try to get the disc thrown in but not much markup in these products from what I understand so walking away I will bet $400 is in sight with fuel and so forth. I have been kicking it around in my head since Sunday and I told myself that this Sunday is shit or get off the pot day on this.

Anybody have other options or experience and some insight on how to proceed?

I don’t even know the brand of my weed eater, but I got a 4 stroke. Plenty of power and comes with a tiller attachment too. I can get you the brand and model when I get home. My yard requires a lot of weed eating, and it’s done the job fine for the two years I’ve had it
 
I bought a honda 4 stroke with that blade attachment, and handle bar controls.
Turned out to be to much for me and my little yard, so I gave it to my son.

He swears by it. He uses it on his 65 acres.
Cuts down anything

If you are going to use a string trimmer for big jobs, get the handle bar set up for sure.

I ended up buying a puney Ryobi battery powered string trimmer.

It's light weight, gets the job done, and doesn't wear me out.
 
My son just bought a Mahindra 1626 HST with a brush hog and some other attachments.

Works great for him.

I have a regular electric trimmer that does the job for grass around trees. But ain't git the juice for what I am doing.

I will check out the honda as they last forever

I have about half acre and my 54" husqvarna is too big. But my landscaping shit is outrageous.

From what I understand, when the three houses in a row were initially purchased new they went in together for landscaping as one was a master gardener and set it all up. 30 years later this is some fucked up shit as last owners of mine and next door didn't do shit for control. Now we are cutting back and going minimal.

The front of my house is so different and that was the easy stuff. Now to the back 40
 
One little spot we worked on and i have 3 giant piles of limbs and growth in my drive ready to burn in neighbor pit.

Question, is this gonna be a one and done project or do you foresee using whatever machine you choose a lot going forward?

If it is a one-and-done thing I would suggest just renting what you want. This will be much cheaper than buying, and you don't have a machine sitting around that you don't really need.

That being said, a version of this might be a good fit because you can cover more ground but also allows you to get close to trees and sech.
