Um, I don’t think a Cooper’s Hawk is going after an ankle biter. Nothing bigger than a squirrel or small wild rabbit.

My ankle biter is barely bigger than a squirrel. Weighs more (3.5 lbs) but not much bigger.

Kudos to you for noticing the threat while also taking a pic and securing your dog. You are sharper than you appear to be on here. I mean, you hide it well.

There was rumor some hawks around here were carrying off cats and small dogs.
This was several years back, but there were flyers posted about it, and one had a picture, so I think you're right to err on the side of caution.
