Anybody ever beat a speeding ticket in court?

Saturday afternoon, I was headed up to check on a herd of goats we had rented out(trust me, the jokes have been made 100 times on here, so be original is all I ask) and then ride on up to the casino for a bit

There’s some kind of festival going on past Blue Ridge, so traffic was a little heavy on 515 and the Georgia State Patrol was pretty well lining the highway, I see one, glance at my speedometer and see I’m going a hair over 70 in a 65.

I get lit up, Barney says I was doing 85, but he bumped it down to 84 so I wouldn’t have a super speeder(I thought super speeder was 25 over, but whatever). I call bullshit, ask to see the radar, Barney refuses(isn’t required to in GA), but is required to see I want his radar’s calibration checked and he didn’t offer that

So for the first time in my life, I’m gonna fight a traffic citation. I’ve had a few others years ago, but didn’t fight them because I got caught and I’m a pretty honest guy. Only other one I know was BS was supposedly going 44 in a 35 in a speed trap South Georgia town where the cop pulled me over immediately after he turned in behind me at a 4 way stop and I had Tennessee tags on my work truck, but it was like a 60 dollar fine with no points, so not worth fighting

Is fighting a ticket a waste of time? Like is the judge just gonna blindly agree with the cop, or is there actually a chance of getting out of the ticket? I’m gonna try either way, figure it won’t hurt to try
 
If you write a professional letter to the judge stating your case and offer to pay the fine while asking for mercy of the court on the points it might work.

One of the funnest things ever is watching people lazily try to get out of a ticket. You really have to stand out from the pack.

If you really think the officer is a liar and really want to fight it, FOIA his disciplinary file and work history. Destroy his credibility with that.

Going to court is a waste of time especially in the South. Unless you have evidence (which you don’t) it will be he said he said the judge didn’t get voted in for going against police.

In my area and I think most you can go to traffic court and request driving school to get rid of the ticket and it comes off your record but you still have to pay it. It’s worth it for insurance.

The driving school is usually half a day on a Saturday.

That’s what I would do.

You might be able to get it moved to something that costs about the same but doesn't get you points on your license. I had that happen to me when I was first starting driving, they had some sort of generic "no points" offense you could plead guilty to and just pay a fine.
 
When I was active duty USAF I was driving back to base - flowing with traffic who were all above the speed limit. For some reason, a cop singled me out and pulled me over. I challenged that one. I attended the case in uniform - which probably helped me. Judge replaced my fine and points on my record with some simple community service act (I don't remember what it was).

I mean, if his body cam was on and it’s supposed to be on, him not offering to check his radar’s calibration would be on there

I’d rather just pay the fine than have community service
 
BTW, if you want to play legal games, hire an attorney. Every time the cop shows for court, he will ask for a continuance. One day, the LEO will not be there and the case will be dismissed.

This guy was a dick. I’m definitely gonna do that, so even if I lose, Barney’s dirty laundry gets aired out

If they offer that, I’d agree. It’s the points on the license and the insurance going up I don’t want.
