105 scholarships for every team, starting in 2025/26.

don't think they are actually going to keep 105 scholarship players.. Bigger schools probably will gurantee something for the top 60 players.. something smaller for the rest unless they move into that top 60.. otherwise..Portal will be full every time it opens

DT/OL recruiting is going to be fun.. staffs will take more shots on developmental players
They absolutely will keep 105. Almost have to with the need for practice players, filling in for injuries and then there are the players that wash out and are worthless.

If you get rid of walk ons 105 is a right number. Remember some of these guys are development it’s not like the pros where you have proven commodities even on the practice squad.

You read that right. As part of the NCAA settlement football rosters will be capped at 105 and full scholarships are available to the full roster.

Max scholly/rosters per sport when this kicks in next year:
FB = 105
Men/Women Basketball = 15
baseball = 34
softball = 25
volleyball = 18
Anyone know why they came up with the numbers they did? Would like to know the injury data/other research about how they arrived at the numbers. Or did they just grab a number out of the air?

Basketball and volleyball make some sense…roster is triple the number of players on the court at one time. But:
105? Why not an even 100?
34? Why not 35?
25? Will Title 9 be in play.

You guys more in the know help an old man make sense of these numbers.

then you will have a huge revolving door in the portal.. U really think those kids for 80-105 are ready to play meaningful minutes?

yeah I have no idea how they came up with them, tehre has to be a competitive balance reason in there somehow

Or will get a fair shake when there are kids who have better stats in the portal?

That revolving door is already there and lets be honest we only care about 1st and 2nd team so that isn't going to change. I doubt there will be more than a 10% to 15% increase.

I'm most excited about the 15 in basketball because in Bruce Pearl's system, he plays 10 to 12 guys, which can help us immensely.

I’m more cynical than you because of some history.

Years ago that tree full of owls known as the Texas Legislature was under pressure to reduce class size in the lower grades. The recommendations from the research gurus said the ideal maximum was 20 or 24 for “grouping” reasons. They couldn’t agree so several of them went down the street to Scholz’s Beer Garden one afternoon and drank beer together all evening. The next day the passed legislation capping class size in grades K-4 at 22! Damn the research and piss on grouping. 11 groups of 2 or 2 groups of 11. WTF!!!

Stop me if you have heard this one before, but Dildo Swinney is crying again.

"This is the most united coaches have been in the history of football," Swinney said. "It's so frustrating."

Swinney began his career as a walk-on receiver at Alabama, earning a scholarship after two years on scout team. That experience, he said, led him to a job as a graduate assistant and, eventually, a receivers coach for Gene Stallings and, ultimately, a two-time national championship winning head coach at Clemson. Had he not been able to walk on to Alabama's team as a freshman, however, none of that would've happened.

"That doesn't happen if [Stallings] hadn't seen me," Swinney said. "I can't even imagine how different things would've been."

Why the fuck is Clemson so poor? They won two natty's recently, shouldn't they have boosters that pay money? If it isn't NIL then it's scholarships. And the kicker is no one is saying they have to pay 105 scholarships, just can go up to the roster limit. If they still want 20 walk ons then Dabo can have his 20 walk ons. And if that puts him and a competitive disadvantage then refer back to my comment about not being so fucking poor.

Yeah, I don't get it. Some just want to whine.

That's why I thought 100 was a good number. I know my West Texas arithmetic is questionable, but if you go four deep on both sides of the ball that is 88 roster spots. That leaves 12 for special teams or anywhere else you want to use them. All I can see is there will be less redshirting if you have a ton of injuries.

I'm hearing the rules for redshirt are changing too. They are making a rule that you get 5 years from the day you make a roster. Now the big argument is when does the roster limits kick in. Are teams allowed to get through recruiting period, preseason/spring/exhibition games, and then cut down to the limit or is it hard capped? That will make a huge difference on if the portal gets rocked or not, imagine a good number of teams carrying 120 then cutting 15 kids later. That will drive them all to the portal.

medical years still going to be a thing?

Doesn't sound like it. But it's all still in the works, just listening to what head coaches in baseball are hearing. Right now it is leaning towards "5 years then out, regardless". That could really stink for a kid who has two season ending injuries early, but also I think it is an attempt to keep teams from using red shirts to get around roster limits like MLB teams do with the IL60 to circumvent the 40 man roster cap.

yeah i think they can change the rules for players who have season ending injuries or God forbid, fight Cancer for a couple years

Massive and needed bump for baseball.

Absurd number for football....but i guess if they're paying all the bills for those scholarships they deserve it?
There is a larger list for basically all sports. There are some that went from just a couple of scholarships available to multiple dozens. There are going to be a lot of kids getting free education now.
