105 scholarships for every team, starting in 2025/26.

There is a larger list for basically all sports. There are some that went from just a couple of scholarships available to multiple dozens. There are going to be a lot of kids getting free education now.

Sounds like a great deal to me. Shits expensive

Stop me if you have heard this one before, but Dildo Swinney is crying again.

Why the fuck is Clemson so poor? They won two natty's recently, shouldn't they have boosters that pay money? If it isn't NIL then it's scholarships. And the kicker is no one is saying they have to pay 105 scholarships, just can go up to the roster limit. If they still want 20 walk ons then Dabo can have his 20 walk ons. And if that puts him and a competitive disadvantage then refer back to my comment about not being so fucking poor.
im still trying to figure out why a grown man still goes by Dabo or really any childhood nickname.

Now the big argument is when does the roster limits kick in. Are teams allowed to get through recruiting period, preseason/spring/exhibition games, and then cut down to the limit or is it hard capped? That will make a huge difference on if the portal gets rocked or not, imagine a good number of teams carrying 120 then cutting 15 kids later. That will drive them all to the portal.
no doubt -
and if you're one of the 15 kids cut on the last day,
what are your options?
a school who's under the 105 cap?

I'm hearing the rules for redshirt are changing too. They are making a rule that you get 5 years from the day you make a roster. Now the big argument is when does the roster limits kick in. All this stuff is going to be entertaining to watch.

Or are you better than a kid on another roster, so a coach actually cuts a kid who is on scholarship?

IMO this just helps the traditional powers maintain their hegemony by allowing stockpiling of more talent against NIL and xfer portal attrition.

I'm wondering what this will do to NIL. What I'm thinking is that before every player could have a scholarship, that created situations where the walk ons were getting scholarship level NIL deals so were just a backdoor to scholarships. Now that the kids can be on scholarships, does that free up NIL money for the top 50 players because they don't have to spend the $25k-$50k for the bottom 25 players? Could free up money to get top players.

If you are with a big school with major donors ... this is great. Keep reloading.
I also think it will help non-football powerhouses, thinking the baseball and basketball schools who never really spent a lot on football to begin with.

I don't see much change in that respect. They'll have more meat to throw at their opponents. But they don't have the money to get great players. How would having more players that wouldn't make it as an sec walk on help those schools?

I see it good for student athletes though. More kids getting a free ride to good programs is a good thing in my opinion. A D3 kid will now get into a D1 program with better equipment, diet, coaching.

I'm looking at it more of the non-state schools that are basketball powerhouses and have a higher tuition/housing cost than a state school in the SEC. So if you are looking at being the 10th man on a basketball team and before that would mean walking on, you are likely going the more affordable route. Now those more expensive private schools that can't compete on the football field but can on smaller rostered sports can build a full team with full rides.

so Rice has a chance to become a powerhouse?

lol my youngest daughter has Rice as her 2nd choice following UT.. ehh she doesn't understand how much that place costs and that I will never be able to afford it
My niece went to Baylor and the total cost was about $75k/year, counting apartments, vehicle, and incidentals. Fortunately, they both had planned accordingly early in their marriage and was established chemical engineers with one being a division head at the Exxon refinery in Houston and the other being part owner of a chemical engineering firm that worked globally. They never broke a sweat writing checks and borrowed nary a dime. If I didn't know better, I would say they planned it ...
