And this is something I would never relate to Florida State football. Poorly coached, well that depends on the stance the coach takes in the week leading up to the game. I can see some coaches saying, "We're at home, this opponent is not one that will stress us, etc." I am not saying Norvell would go this route. Now, these guys did look poorly conditioned and did execute poorly. I wasn't able to actually "SEE" if the RB's couldn't find the holes, or were the holes just not created to run through.

Here's my take on this:

TLDR - they hit lightening in a bottle last year. It was an outlier year for FSU and their arrogance led them to believe "we are back!" They are not.

- Other than the Winston years, they have been mediocre the last 25 years. See below. They are far more likely to lose 3-6 games than to win the ACC.

- Norvell's high school recruiting is ungood - 22, 23, 20, 19, 12, 18 (current). That current class could fall apart if they don't right the ship.

- I don't believe you can win relying on the portal to build a team, and FSU will be Exhibit B, Exhibit A being Colorado. You have to recruit HS athletes well, and supplement with the portal. The main reason for this is that you can't build a winning team culture with portal, rental players. Culture is built organically from the bottom up, not the top down.

- FSU is relying on building the team through the portal, and got lucky and hit about 100% of 9 players last year. They went into the portal and got players from UGA, Bama, and other teams that sounded good, but were players that weren't getting PT at their old schools. So far they are closer to hitting 0% than 100%. QB sucks and will be benched soon if he doesn't turn it around. Can you imagine the culture when the portal guys start getting benched for other players? Think what the NIL disparity will do in that scenario.

So, whether he is a good game coach or not, i don't know. What I do know is that he does a terrible job managing his roster and that is more important than being a great game day coach, IMO.

I won't quote the whole thing. I will say I guess it was my mind thinking that there is no way that what FSU did last year was lightning in a bottle. During the NIL era, transfer portal, and CFP. I mean, that is like winning the lottery. To have that kind of season where all the stars align. Upon further consideration and reading that post, I can surely see otherwise. But, wow, damn, what a fall so far the start of this season.
