Astronomers have just discovered that an asteroid is about to strike Earth at thousands of kilometres per hour, impacting just east of the Philippines and most likely in the sea. Thankfully, the relatively small object poses no harm and will burn up in the atmosphere in a fireball.

Fucking stupid.

Mercy plorst.

Fuck you, OP.

Yeah that was confusing to me as well, but I think in NASA terms striking earth just means hitting our atmosphere and not actually impacting the ground.

Stories like this always make me wonder how far off we are from being able to radar map space. Small, relatively speaking, objects like this are impossible to see any distance away because the sun has to hit it and we have to be in a spot to be looking when it does. However if we could use a form of radar, or lidar maybe, then we should be able to map a lot more near earth objects.

If that's the case then every shooting star and/or meteor shower is striking Earth, and the article is still stupid, clickbait bullshit.

I was watching a video about a grain of sand hitting the Earth at the speed of light, and it blew my fucking mind.

So a big explosion but no real damage to speak of?

I’m not a theoretical physicist or anything, but I’m thinking it rips a hole through the entire planet and blows the Earth completely up as it exits out the other side.

Cuz it’s going to strike with the almost limitless energy, as it’ll have almost infinite mass, since it’s going the speed of light.

Like a 50 cal through a watermelon. Only like a trillion billion times more, times infinity.

Sucks gummies don’t work for you man. Working intergalactic overtime here.

I actually had some success with tmthem i had 4 of those you recommended on an empty stomach and the 45 min later I had dinner.
