NFL's new kickoff rule

I don't watch much NFL, but watched the whole game tonight. My father in law thought the new kickoff rule was going to be a game changer. F'ing hardly. I couldn't get past watching two or three of these kickoffs tonight where it was an obvious touchback, and the kicking team rushed down the field... to do what?

Like watching bad punts. Apparently more balls get returned though.

The NFL changes this stuff too often, is my issue. I'm sure the League will delete kickoffs entirely in a few years and just place the ball on the 20 yd line. Then the 25. Then bring back the kickoff, but only allow 16 total players on the field at a time. And then replace all human players with pink robots and the ball with a bouquet of flowers.
