Norman, OK travel destination

Have not heard much about this, but I like it.

A lot of visiting folk will shack up in the OKC area and spend their cash in Bricktown etc.

This is a smart investment as long as they add more moderate to upscale hotel rooms. People can shack up in Norman while visiting with no need to go to OKC.

if they would allow a sportsbook in the state, Choctaw and Winstar would have one and I'd be up there pretty often. Whenever schedules allow.

Now with the new Maverick owners, I fully expect sports betting to be legalized in Texas in 2025 so OK better get a move on it or Texas is going to end up stealing some border jumping money back.

They kinda do. Choctaw is just a few miles into Oklahoma if you come from 75 and WinStar is pretty close if you come from 35.
This are the largest and 3rd largest casinos in the world. Yea the world.

When I read the title of this thread, I couldn't figure out if OK was in reference to the state or the type of time you'll have in Norman.

I mean, why is their slogan "Oklahoma is OK"? Because "mediocre" was too difficult to spell.

lol that's an old slogan. It's Native America now.
You know why there aren't many Indians in Texas? They shot most of them. The motto of Texas could be "The only Indian I ever cared about was on a nickel".

Went there once and saw former NBA star Wayman Tisdale perform some smooth jazz in 2007, a few years before he passed away.

May he RIP.
His baseline turnaround jumper in college was as close to an undefendable shot as there is. The world lost greatness when he passed.

Yep, I remember.

He never achieved the same greatness in the pros as he was in college but he was still pretty good. He also retired early and did not hang on too long when he could have because he had other interests outside of the game. He made a smooth transition to music. Met him after the performance and he was oh so very gracious and humble. The world lost a truly great human being.

Not the biggest Tony Keith fan but this was a great tribute and song to his friend. Sad that he and Keith are now reunited in the great beyond.

People think Toby was a maga guy, he was not. He always said patriotism isn’t political. He truly was all about the troops, all he cared about. He lived it. OU lost 2 very big ambassadors in those 2.

Sportsbook only? I thought there was a larger possibility the Lege was now in the mood for casinos. No?

I read several sessions ago that over 50% of gaming revenue in Louisiana, Oklahoma and New Mexico came from Texans. I know they flock to Winstar/Choctaw/Kiowa from North Texas. Ruidoso, NM from West Texas/the Panhandle and Shreveport/Lake Charlles from East Texas/Houston. Those casinos lobby the Texas Lege very hard to keep from legalizing casino style gaming in Texas.
