This thought came to me as I ponder the sport of college football each morning, well evening too, oh yeah and at work, and well yeah when I get up out of bed for my nightly/early morning urination break. Was Pat Hill ever offered a P5/P4 job? I know times have changed since then. If he was 40-55 now, and had the success he had then, would any P4 teams come calling?

Old school. Frank Kush at Arizona State preceded him and was of the same ilk.

Considering the success he had at Fresno State, you'd assume that he was offered at least an assistant position at a P5 school, if not the head coaching position. But I don't remember much talk about it when he was there. He did leave to be o-line coach for the Atlanta Falcons and apparently retired after 1 season there, because it doesn't look like he's coached since then.

Yeah, I was just thinking at the rate these G5 coaches are hired now for a P4 team, what he would have been offered if he wasn't close to 80 years old. Considering the times "back then", not so sure. And even of the chance came up, maybe he was satisfied at Fresno State.

You'd think that with Fresno in such close proximity that USC or UCLA would have reached out to him.

Maybe they did but, as you mention, he was good at Fresno.

There's definitely a lot less pressure being the "giant killer" than there is being the giant.

I remember USC playing them when we were rolling with Bush, Leinart, etc. and barely escaping with the win. Told a friend after that game that USC can feel free to never schedule those fuckers again. lol

That was one of the best "forgotten" games of the last 30 years.
