Thought there was a thread. Don't even know when the portal reopens, but Iowa has a couple of players saying sayonara

I think the transfer portal is ok. But I think they need to make it a bit harder to transfer. I like that a player can transfer if the coach leaves. As much as we say that it should be about the school, not the coach, we all know that 9 out of 10 are going because of the coach.

They also need to limit the number of transfers. There are kids hitting the portal 2-3 times.

Also, I don't think better NIL is a valid reason unless the player isn't receiving what he was promised.

A, I don't think better NIL is a valid reason unless the player isn't receiving what he was promised.
All this shit does is breed more "it's all about me" players. These are the world class dooshes of football. The kind of shits that will obnoxiously celebrate a first down when their team is down 40 points.

Does anyone playing college football care at all about actually getting an education anymore?
I'm going to qualify my answer. I'm not a fan of the transfer portal or the NIL in its current form. I am for the players being able to benefit and transfer, with some limitations on both.

Believe it or not, many of them do care about education...at least the "getting a degree" part. But most only care because they know they won't make a living in the NFL. Odds of them earning a living playing football are extremely small. I'll see if I can find the article about those percentages and the students that actually do want to go to class and gain credits. It may even be earlier in this thread. We had the discussion about it about 6-9 months ago it seems.

All that said, some of them don't figure out they'll need that degree until they've pissed away several semesters that were fully funded by their scholarships. And many of the adults in their lives have been feeding them the line they were God's gift to football since Pop Warner. So it is understandable why some don't "get it" early.

Another wacky thing is some of those that do make it to the NFL will take a pay cut when they get to the pros. They have NIL deals that are more than rookie salaries.

When you transfer loosely and freely like this strictly for football reasons it sure seems like you're either saying "Every college/academic degree is exactly the same anyway" or you're saying "I don't care about my education". That's probably simplifying it a bit too much but I don't think it's that far off. Not to mention that not all credits are accepted everywhere when you transfer

No, I don’t think you are simplifying it at all. Without any guidelines, that is exactly what some are doing.

At some point the powers that be(even the attorneys for the players) will have to reign things in a little. If not they risk killing the goose that is laying the golden eggs.

It will be interesting to see how revenue sharing plays out.

I think all players should get only one transfer unless there is a coaching change. Play good enough then another school can get you paid. But having kids transferring to multiple schools is kind of against the whole fight for NIL. NIL was suppose to be for the players, but the way it has run is terrible for the athletes. Sure you get the upfront money but if you are just a mercenary that doesn’t make the NFL that player almost always end up broke.

And schools/NCAA/some kind of regulation that needs to put an end to this a player gets to decide he is going to redshirt and leave. Eventually a player is going to get sued to repay the money and even a kid who got a massive deal isn’t going to be able to deal with the legal stuff.

Though I think the whole solution to this is if the UFL or whatever the name of it is gets rid of its age restriction. Cause the system as it is now is massively predatory against the players.

if a player wants to transfer every portal..let them.. all they are doing is making it easier for schools to pass on them. Take Bear for example.. Texas will be looking for DTs in December for the '25 season.. but they aren't taking his ass. Let another school take that gamble.. SC is not missing him.

Bear is eligible to hit the draft... But he most likely returns for a 4th season..why? NFL teams gonna grill him on his sitting out to transfer move.

Kind of proving my point with all of this being predatory.

Come on down! Don't make us take Arch when Quinn comes back.
lol why would Arch want to go to a dumpster fire?? ou had it's savior QB that was better than Arch because he played 6A ball in Texas.. lol now they are ready to move on from him... better go and poach McCord :) #HOOKEM

This portal is expected to be insane from what I’ve heard. Tons of players expected to be on the move with a tons left without a landing spot in the “big boy” levels and heading to D2.
