Week 8 Playoff Projections

So no one has ever beat a #1 team unless that team lost at some point and still ended up #1 at the end of the season.

Didn't LSU finish #1 with 2 losses in 2007?

I never said that. I said that you should get credit for beating a team at their current ranking. Less credit for beating a team early in the season that is ranked than you would a team ranked late, but you can't just dismiss it because the ranking BEFORE YOU BEAT THEM is going to be higher than after.

At the END OF THE SEASON when everyone is arguing strength of schedule, you should not be claiming those types of wins as "great wins".But the shills on ESPN sure will for the SEC teams like always. They'll hype USC as a "good loss" for LSU too.

If the "Top 10" team you beat in week 2 finishes unranked they clearly weren't ever any good.

I don't disagree with your last statement, and I don't care what ESPN or the SEC claims, nor do I think B1G has a never done it trying to justify a BCS bid.

But to flatly say that gameday rankings don't matter is pants on head fucking retarded and y'all are lining up to agree with that bullshit. Assuming OSU doesn't completely fold and ends up in the top 5, does Oregon not get credit for beating the #2 ranked team? Just because by having beat them they knocked them down a few spots and only worked their way back up to #4?

I never said that the gameday rankings that week don't matter, obviously they do. But the only rankings that matter at the end of the year are the final ranking.

Getting rid of preseason rankings would help filter out the bullshit, no rankings period until the CFP starts pushing theirs out. Of course that would never happen though. I think after 7 or 8 weeks you get a much better view of how teams actually are than some arbitrary preseason rankings based off of assumptions and past seasons in a sport that more than ever wildly varies from year to year.

I don't understand that. You say gameday rankings do matter, but the only ranking that matters is at the end of the season. What am I not getting?

Yes, preseason rankings are stupid and should be ignored. Yes, until about week 5 we should ignore rankings for the most part. But the outright "only the SEC counts rankings on the week they play and that's stupid" stuff is fucking ignorant.

And all the fucking tards that wrote, liked, or "he's right you know" gif'd that moronic "GameDay Rankings are worthless" post need to be castrated and removed from the fucking gene pool. Inbred fucking hillbilly dildos.

They only matter in relevance to that week. Of course you are going to get a boost for beating the #whatever team in that given week, but you shouldn't get extra credit for it at the end of the year if that teams proves to be dogshit and finishes unranked.

You watch though at the end of the year, ESPN will be claiming Michigan as a "good win" for Texas, especially if Texas loses again and is being questioned if they should be in the playoff. Same with LSU they'll get that "good loss" credit for losing to USC who's currently 16th in the Big 10 standings.

This is going to be interesting to me. How strength of schedule and strength of record is going to be used.

Was watching the CFP show and they brought up some things that could possibly make the committee's job pretty difficult when separating teams from the same conference. Thank you unbalanced schedules. Unless several things work themselves out. Some probably will, especially in the CCGs.

SEC - Contenders
Bama plays Georgia, Tennessee and LSU but misses Texas and A&M
Georgia plays Bama, Texas and Tennessee but misses LSU and A&M
LSU plays A&M and Alabama but misses Georgia, Tennessee and Texas
Texas plays Georgia and A&M but misses Bama, LSU and Tennessee
Texas A&M plays LSU and Texas but misses Bama, Georgia and Tennessee

So in the end, SOS may benefit Bama and Georgia because they play 3 of the 5 where LSU, Texas and A&M only play 2.

ACC - Contenders
Clemson plays Pitt but misses Miami and SMU
Miami misses all three contenders Clemson, Pitt or SMU
Pitt plays SMU and Clemson but misses Miami
SMU plays Pitt but misses Clemson and Miami

SOS advantage goes to Pitt who plays 2 of the other 3.

I will say this: MEN, NOVEMBER COLLEGE FOOTBALL IS ALMOST HERE!!! Now, the scary part is I have no idea if it is going to separate the great from the good and the good from the bad. Or is it just going to make it more of a mixed up disaster? I hope major injuries don't come into play.

And look at the teams in the P4 conferences that have no losses, and the ones sitting behind them with just one loss. I can see a major shitstorm coming and a lot of bitching about which team(s) got left out just behind the 12th spot.

I’m hoping for chaos, mixed up disaster, etc so we can listen to all the arguments as to how the CFP got it wrong.

I'd say they get credit for beating a top 5 team, but not the #2 team unless OSU ends up ranked #2.

There's a chance the acc and b1g finish with 3 teams undefeated in conference play

Beating Michigan will get no team much credit. The CFPC will see that.

A 9-3 LSU will not get in the playoffs.

How much does that LSU loss to the Trojans affect them? I mean, it was week one (I think).

Well, November started, and that “mixed up disaster” didn’t take long…
