By OSU standards, yeah he was very mediocre. Compare his QB rating to that of Stroud, Fields, and Haskins. He was far behind the 5 previous season we had with those 3 in basically every category, and Howard is already proving to be significantly better than 2023 McCord this year. Again, you guys were just wrong. That's alright, I know it sucks for you to admit, but you were definitely wrong.
You summed it up perfectly well. Across the board, Howard is a better QB than McCord.
Howard also has 14 TD passes on fewer than half the attempts.
We haven't seen Ohio State play anyone with a pulse outside of Oregon. We're comparing a full season to a half season here. And prior to this singular performance, McCord was arguably doing better at Syracuse than Howard did at K-State.
Howard faced two top-20 defenses in back to back weeks. He completed 82% of his passes for 535 yards, 9 YPA, 6 TDs and 1 INT while adding 2 more TDs on the ground. At no time did McCord do anything remotely as impressive as that in 2023. I know you desperately need the difference to not be there, but to everyone with working eyes and objective brains, the difference is enormous.
He's also on a more talented team.
Check out the post above. Ohio State's run game was terrible last year; so was their offensive line. THeir investment in offensive line is likely directly the result of the dramatically better rushing attack this year (pressure off the QB to pass the ball) and directly responsible for the better protection Howard is getting. That can't simply be brushed off here. McCord would be doing better this year on this Ohio State team than he did last year for those simple facts.
Nah, Howard's the biggest reason why we've seen offensive improvement. He's been much more than marginally better than McCord at this point in evert facet as a passer, but the fact that he's not a liability with his legs means the entire rushing offense has improved. He already has 142 more rushing yards this year than McCord had all of last year to go with 5 rushing TDs to McCord's 0. The only change to our OL is McLaughlin, and you michigan fans all said he sucked super bad so he can't have any credit for anything.
If you take away McCord's inexplicably horrible rushing statistics, OSU would've ranked 39th in the nation in YPC, even outpacing michigan. Your argument is invalid.
I'm not saying McCord is some otherworldly talent. He can make more throws than Howard can though. There is a reason Howard came back for a 5th year. The money Ohio gave him is more than he would make in the NFL, IF, he even makes it in the NFL.

With your vast knowledge of football -- I'd think you would know yards lost on sacks count against the rushing stats of the QB in college.
He threw for the 7th most yards in Ohio history last year. Comparing him to Stroud, Fields and Haskins is ridiculous, as they are all top 15 NFL picks. Comparing Howard to those 3, he is also very mediocre then.
