GAME Thursday night NCAAF

"mediocre at best"

top 15 QB in terms of QB rating.....

I'm not sure in any world is a top 15 QB "mediocre at best". That's a good QB. Both QB's are solid QB's. Both QB's did worse at the school not named Ohio State
By OSU standards, yeah he was very mediocre. Compare his QB rating to that of Stroud, Fields, and Haskins. He was far behind the 5 previous season we had with those 3 in basically every category, and Howard is already proving to be significantly better than 2023 McCord this year. Again, you guys were just wrong. That's alright, I know it sucks for you to admit, but you were definitely wrong.

Howard has been significantly better this year than McCord was last year. Especially against ranked competition. He's a much better fit as well because he's not a statue back there. And what do you know, OSU's sack rate is significantly lower this year as well. And I don't think OSU's line has any significant upgrades, they got the lineman from Bama, but @Across The Field would know better than I.
You summed it up perfectly well. Across the board, Howard is a better QB than McCord.

Yes. Especially on this OSU team which is arguably more talented than the 2023 version.

"terrible against ranked teams" huh?

He did terrible against Michigan.....but other than that, he had a total of 4 picks on the entire season outside of the Michigan game. He finished last year with 24 TD passes and 6 total picks. Will Howard has 3 picks so far halfway through the season.
Howard also has 14 TD passes on fewer than half the attempts.

He did terrible against michigan, you're right, and was even worse against Penn State, Notre Dame, and Indiana, and was equally as bad against Wisconsin.

We haven't seen Ohio State play anyone with a pulse outside of Oregon. We're comparing a full season to a half season here. And prior to this singular performance, McCord was arguably doing better at Syracuse than Howard did at K-State.

The difference between these two QB's remains negligible.

Howard faced two top-20 defenses in back to back weeks. He completed 82% of his passes for 535 yards, 9 YPA, 6 TDs and 1 INT while adding 2 more TDs on the ground. At no time did McCord do anything remotely as impressive as that in 2023. I know you desperately need the difference to not be there, but to everyone with working eyes and objective brains, the difference is enormous.

He's also on a more talented team.

2023 Ohio State
Rushing offense - 88th
Passing offense - 31st

2024 Ohio State
Rushing offense - 19th
Passing offense - 17th

While there's been a marginal improvement in the passing game, the biggest difference is that Ohio State improved their offensive line. Which has not only dramatically impacted their rushing offense, but properly protected their QB.

Well, last I looked Michigan was ranked last season. He had a total of 3 TD's and 2 INT's against the ranked teams he played. That's terrible. The year prior Stroud was 9 TD's and 2 INT's, and so far this year Howard is 3 total TD's and 0 INT's.

All the OSU teams are insanely talented. OSU has finished top 10 in offensive efficiency every year since 2017, except for, you guessed it, the offense lead by McCord. For reference, this years offense is 4th.

Check out the post above. Ohio State's run game was terrible last year; so was their offensive line. THeir investment in offensive line is likely directly the result of the dramatically better rushing attack this year (pressure off the QB to pass the ball) and directly responsible for the better protection Howard is getting. That can't simply be brushed off here. McCord would be doing better this year on this Ohio State team than he did last year for those simple facts.

Nah, Howard's the biggest reason why we've seen offensive improvement. He's been much more than marginally better than McCord at this point in evert facet as a passer, but the fact that he's not a liability with his legs means the entire rushing offense has improved. He already has 142 more rushing yards this year than McCord had all of last year to go with 5 rushing TDs to McCord's 0. The only change to our OL is McLaughlin, and you michigan fans all said he sucked super bad so he can't have any credit for anything.

If you take away McCord's inexplicably horrible rushing statistics, OSU would've ranked 39th in the nation in YPC, even outpacing michigan. Your argument is invalid.

Oh wow, it's almost like having the threat of a QB run game, and not taking a shit load of sacks, by not being a statue in the pocket, will help your rushing offense. As @Across The Field said the only difference on the OL was the Bama transfer. And according to him, Michigan fans thought he sucked prior to the season. Also, it should be noted, OSU only avg 4.3 yards per rush in the Oregon game.

McCord was terrible against ranked competition last year. His stats weren't all that great all things considered.

And yeah sure. If you can proclaim them to have some type of record, so can I. I mean it's not a coincidence the two games Syracuse has lost he's been terrible in both.
I'm not saying McCord is some otherworldly talent. He can make more throws than Howard can though. There is a reason Howard came back for a 5th year. The money Ohio gave him is more than he would make in the NFL, IF, he even makes it in the NFL.

McCord has the arm strength to make all the throws in the NFL. Howard does not.

was routinely bailed out by Harrison.
If Harrison bailed out McCord -- what has the circus catches Jeremiah Smith done for Howard?
If you take away McCord's inexplicably horrible rushing statistics,
With your vast knowledge of football -- I'd think you would know yards lost on sacks count against the rushing stats of the QB in college.

He threw for the 7th most yards in Ohio history last year. Comparing him to Stroud, Fields and Haskins is ridiculous, as they are all top 15 NFL picks. Comparing Howard to those 3, he is also very mediocre then.

And McCord at Ohio -- thru 6 games last year -- He had thrown for roughly 1,650 with 12 tds and 1 int. Ohio was 6-0. Now do Howard.

Him going to bat so hard for McCord is hilarious. Of course the Michigan fan wishes he was still our QB lol.

Who cares if McCord "has the arm strength to make NFL throws"

He doesn't have the mental or intangible side to be a NFL QB, not even close.

Syracuse is currently 126TH in rushing per game! and 124th in team YPC!

Syracuse is throwing a ton because they have to because the running game is that shit. Not because McCord is some passing savant.

It's a miracle it took this long for him to have a total implosion.

Of course tard boy is going to use McCord throwing like 40-60 times a game at Syracuse and putting up lofty yardage numbers as "lol Ohio State made mistake"

He's thrown over 40 pass in every game except 1 (week 1 vs Ohio U)

Excuse the Michigan fans, they are still wrapping their heads around how Orji actually wasn't Cam Newton and Tim Tebow combined.

Eric is the one who started this up again. Not Michigan fans. Michigan fans don't care who your QB is, as long as Ryan Day stays.

Who is god's name would say anything of the sort? Michigan fans had never even seen Orji attempt a pass before this season?
