Sweet mother of tittyfuck....
holy shit GIF

This contract (50 mill/yr) makes Harper (30 mill/yr) seem like he lives on the poor side of town.

For a 1b/dh in a couple years

Nah. He looks more like a merely below average defender than a total liability. People make him sound like he's Adam Dunn and he isn't. Hell, he might honestly be an upgrade over Marte defensively at this point (at least going by UZR/150 and DRS)

And we're talking about a guy with a career 160 OPS+.

I think top players getting a lot on a per season basis is a great thing, but I hope these extreme long term contracts come to an end.

Soto will be making $51,000,000 at age 40.

Agreed. 10 years is one thing, but 15? 16?
10 years will probably take most FA’s a little beyond their prime years, but there’s enough players that stay good into their mid 30’s that it’s fine

15 years and extending into a player’s 40’s is dumb

Hes a slow runner with poor range in the field. Solid arm tho. I don't see him holding up in the field into his 30s very long. He's obviously well worth it now.

Hell, with the way contracts are going up, maybe $51mil won't be that crazy for a 1b/dh in 10 years.

Does he have opt outs? How many years are mutual options?. More details, please.

The Mets continue to rewrite history with the most absurd contracts of all time.

Well, on the one hand, I don't like it.

But OTOH, I like it.

Insane contract. I think the Yanks should be happy they dodged this potential mess.

I read player opt out after 5 years but the mets can void that by bumping him from 51/yr to 56/yr i think
