Vegas giving Tennessee no respect? (+7.5)

Doesn't mean they think tOSU will win by that much.

That's just the spread that they think will split the bets 50/50.
You are 100% Correct. If they get an exact 50/50 the bet holders (Casino or Bookies) will make 5% in 3+ hours. That doesn't even include the interest made on the amount of time the bet is held.

Looks like it opened at tOSU -7 so you're right. They put the hook on their to slow things down and get some money swinging the other way.

I think the -7 is insane though.
If I could, I would bet on ohio state ... every time a bet doesn't look right to me - I go the other way. My religious affiliation does not allow me to bet on ohio state. :dhd:

I'm the same. They showed the handle to be 73% of bets on Tennessee right now, so I keep waiting on the line to drop. I'm guessing by the day before kickoff we will see the line drop some so they can even out the money.

If any Ohio fan is objective, it is definitely you.

You threw the ball 33 times -- something was shit in that game, outside of your offensive line getting manhandled in the run the game. It was your QB. His longest completion was on a screen to the RB for 24 yards. He completed 55% of his passes and had 2 interceptions against backups all over the secondary.

Good thing he was mobile though -- his game long carry of 4 yards was a game changer.
You were even talking in the Game thread about how you were shocked that we lost because our gamescript was so awful. You were right. The number of 2nd and 9/10/11 situations we got in was atrocious. Most of the time when we let Howard throw early instead of constantly wasting 1st and 10, we moved the ball. Also, Howard clearly had his bell rung in the first half and that impacted him, but it didn't help that he was constantly dealing with 2nd and long because we consistently tried running the ball between the guards.

We obviously had more points and more yards against much better defenses this season than michigan, we just kept repeatedly wasting nearly two dozen plays doing literally the one thing we weren't equipped to do, and that was run up the gut. That loss falls squarely on Chip, and Day for letting him do it.

What will he really interesting is if Ryan Day continues to run up the middle of the field and ignores his WR’s again or not.
The WR are only allowed to touch the ball in the 1st half. And that very sparingly .

Our offense ran for 177 yards when you KNEW it was coming, as we didn't have a QB who could complete a forward pass.

I do like how you think it was the "offensive game plan" that was the problem against Michigan. Tennessee is the best defense Ohio will have faced this year. Should be an entertaining game.

Tennessee's offense reminds me of Michigan's offense the last few years. They are balanced and average 200 on the ground and 200 passing. Their play calls will be dictated by what the defense is doing.

This is the one game I'm excited to watch in the first round.
13 points. The D played well. It was entirely the "offensive game plan". Day and Kelly got out coached by Martindale.

They got outcoached by Day's ego. He wanted to try and prove he could beat michigan at their game and it killed us. Dumbass could have done literally almost anything else but run up the middle and we win comfortably, but he had to keep being a dumbshit.

They lost all trust in Howard. They let him throw deep in your own end early in the game and what did he do? He threw a perfect deep out to Michigan's CB.
And the difference in the defense you faced was -- you hadn't played a physical defense. Ask Howard how physical Michigan was. Michigan dominated the line of scrimmage AGAIN. That's why you lost. You can pass blame to Chip, Ryan Day or whoever else you'd like to blame this time. Michigan was more physical in the trenches.

That's why I said Tennessee could give you guys a hard time. They like to do a lot of the same things as Michigan, trying to impose their will on teams. Ohio folds if you punch them in the mouth under Day. If Tennessee can punch Ohio in the mouth early. I wouldn't be shocked at all if they won the game

Michigan had multiple turnovers in the red zone, including one where the guy was wide open by 10 yards in the end zone and Warren made one of the worst throws Ive ever seen. I'm convinced my 10 year old could have made that TD throw.

Realistically. Michigan shouldn't have been able to move the ball at all -- if Ohio's defense is supposed to be one of the best in the nation. We DEFINITELY shouldn't have been able to run for 170+ yards, when that was our only option.

I do agree -- Martindale grossly out schemed Chip and Day. He goaded them into running on multiple downs based on pre-snap looks only to change the look after the snap.

I have said Nico is a variable in this game that I cannot handicap. Tenn should be able to move the ball. They have the best OL in this game by a large margin. OSU’s defense has a major issue at CB. Michigan could not take advantage of that. Nico has the ability. Tenn has better WRs, than Michigan (though that is not a high bar). If Nico gets comfortable and doesn’t play like a freshmen, I like Tenn’s odds. I have been considering taking the money line. Kind of like the leverage of that bet, because I don’t trust Nico.

Does every Ohio St thread have to turn into page after page of WhoPhoneDis rant?
One day Nebraska may have an actual rivalry worth discussing -- if that day every comes, I will enjoy your rants.
Now go celebrate your first bowl game in the last decade and let us talk here. :)

Agreed -- I think we are looking at it the same way. Ohio's DL simply doesn't get pressure when they play teams with an OL who has any talent and Tennessee has talent on the OL.
I'm also sure this is going to be one of the first time's Nico is going to have to play in cold weather. I believe he is a california kid, if i remember correctly. The high in Columbus is 30 degrees and the game is 8pm, so it will be in the mid to low 20's by game time.

I don't know if it is supposed to be windy, where the wind chill makes it feel even colder than it is, but I think it will have an effect on the game. You are going to have to run the ball and I think the team who can run the ball effectively will win.

If this game was played indoors or in warm weather -- I think Ohio wins comfortably. I think a night game in the cold favors the team better at running the ball and Tennessee has the better OL. I think Tennessee not only covers the 7.5, but has a very good chance at winning the game.

LOL they already came out and admitted the playcalling was the problem. Again, anyone with any level of football knowledge and an objective mind knows OSU beat themselves in a game they would have easily won had they not kept trying to run up the gut (which hadn't been our playcalling scheme in any other game this year). Whether it was Day or Kelly calling the plays that game, they've both already admitted the playcalling was atrocious.

I get a good laugh at the Michigan was more physical in the trenches BS. OSU simply puckered. For whatever reason Michigan is in Day and OSU's head.

OSU is gonna win by 14+ on Saturday. What will be the narrative then?

Actually Howard threw two pretty nice passes to Jeremiah Smith that were pretty much sure touchdowns. Michigan's DB took advantage of the dumbass college PI rule and tackled Smith to prevent the TD.

"Tennessee is just soft"

And Day never went back to those deep passes again because he was being a fucking moron and trying to run up the gut. Like I said, his ego cost us what should have been a 3+ TD win.
