Curious how the CFP would handle this

Ohio State and Penn State had to win to advance to the next round. The teams with byes had massive rest advantages

Oregon had an easier path than either because Oregon didn’t have to play a game to reach the quarters like OSU and PSU did
LOL at thinking the massive rest was an advantage. Not one BYE team won, interesting how that worked

There is no question that the top bracket was far tougher than the bottom, but at the same time, champions beat the teams ahead of them

Things aren’t always gonna be fair in sports, especially a sport like college football with ridiculously unbalanced schedules and 130 teams playing at the top level

In 2008, the 8-8 Chargers hosted a playoff game while the 11-5 Patriots missed out

Hell. Look at this year in the NFL. Some shitty NFC South team is going to get a home game while a 14-3 NFC North team has to play on the road because the division was so bonkers.

They shouldn't have played game 1 of the playoff. Nice that the #8 seed got to break in the playoff with a home game first before playing a team that had a month off
Wait, didn't Oregon play this amazing regular season after having 8-9 months off?

Because it looks like all the teams with a bye were able to get that bye due to an easy/lucky schedule.

That's the beauty of a playoff bracket, you have to earn the title. Not get lucky with a win or two.

Interesting who that 1 loss was to. Oregon is also 3-1 vs playoff teams and 2-1 against playoff teams still alive.

Something is missing
Yes, what's missing is that Oregon lost to Ohio State IN THE PLAYOFFS.

I know it's been 10 years, but if you lose, you don't get to go on.

That's the way things work.

You seem to think college football is in the same place it was 15 years ago. That’s dead and gone. The winner of the playoffs is the champion. That’s like the patriots claiming the 2007 Super Bowl.

Rumor has it that Jeremiah Smith is still running wide open at the Rose Bowl
Might as well let him run wide open. Three guys can't stop him, so what else is there?

So the excuse is a lack of preparation. Cool.
Not lack of prep, I equate this to say in a basketball game where you are running hard for the first half and playing well, then at halftime go in and rest and there is some delay forcing a longer halftime and then you have to come back out for the second half and you're not as fluid and loose. Try doing hard exercise for 45 minutes, stopping for 20 minutes then trying to go back out and do that same intensity you were doing. It ain't happening

Oregon's got going, but their early season had struggles vs Idaho and Boise State. Oregon in November beats that Idaho team by 50 pts.

Then why couldn't the #1 seed beat the #4 seed?
Oregon couldn't beat OSU (#4 seed) in 2014/15 either. Maybe it's just that Oregon can't beat OSU as the #4 seed?

The 2006 Cardinals won 83 games and were by far the worst team to make the playoffs that year, and top 5 worst teams to make the playoffs during the one WC team era. They went on a run in the playoffs and won the whole thing. What’s the point of playing in the playoffs if the results don’t matter when the perceived best team doesn’t win?

I just heard that the 1983 Phi Slamma Jamma team has subscribed to this thread and intently watching the outcome to see if they have a claim to the title that year.

:pop2:

If I am reading posts correctly, it makes it sound as though the regular season of CFB doesn't really matter anymore. Just find a way into the playoffs and win 4 games, that's all the season has boiled down to

Sure it is. Be the better team. If you need more practice to stay in game shape then do that.

Lanning was too busy on social media to get his team ready. And it showed.

You finally get it.

You did get a B1G championship. Congrats.

If the posters here have their way and Herbstreit/ESPN have their way, then that's college football in 2025 and beyond, wins don't matter, just get into the playoffs and start your season then

There’s still a game to be played. If UGA loses, you won’t see me using the bye as an excuse

Texas Rangers last year were the WC team and had to go on a miraculous road-win streak to win it all.

Wins still matter you fool, ask the SEC teams who cried about getting left out at 9-3
