Curious how the CFP would handle this

The College Football Playoff expanded this year to 12 teams. Did the equate, or did the college football world, take into account for if you have a situation where a team only has one loss, that coming in the playoffs but a 2 loss team wins the national championship or if the two teams in the national championship game lost to that undefeated team?

For example, Oregon entered the playoffs as the #1 team and undefeated. The Ducks beat Ohio State and Penn State, two playoff teams and two teams in the playoffs. The Ducks won the B1G which both Ohio State and Penn State are apart of. Oregon only suffered one loss, which came in the playoffs. They only got one game in the playoffs to play while the other two got an extra game.

What if Ohio State and Penn State played in the national championship game? Where does that put Oregon? A possible debate for a share of the national championship? I mean the Ducks beat both of them and potentially will have less losses than the winner. Penn State is 0-1 vs the Ducks and Ohio State would be 1-1. Seems this is a plausible scenario the CFB world forgot to iron out when they put together the bracket. Major flaw in their playoff ranking and bracket. Another reason the system needs a complete overhaul and revamp for next year and year's moving forward. We can't have this mistake happening again and we can't punish the #1 team in the country for going undefeated and winning their conference championship. No other sport have I seen such an asinine playoff ranking setup.
Fuck off

Next year you will have teams throwing the CCG just to try and get a better seed.

Even in March Madness the #1 overall seed gets the most favorable region. Not in college football's case, no that goes to Penn State

If the posters here have their way and Herbstreit/ESPN have their way, then that's college football in 2025 and beyond, wins don't matter, just get into the playoffs and start your season then
College sports like basketball, baseball, hockey, volleyball, etc all have done it this way forever.

You just don't like it because you lost. Tough.

LOL at thinking the massive rest was an advantage. Not one BYE team won, interesting how that worked
Two of the 3 didn't deserve the bye. They were underdogs for a reason - the teams they were playing were ranked higher but because of the stupid rules, were seeded too high.

One team deserved the bye (Oregon) but failed when it counted in the playoffs.

lol. yeah no one wants to with a CCG because the bye is a terrible thing.

Brackets lead to the better team winning.

The BYE accompanied by asinine seeding is a bad thing. It is flawed

This may be the most terrible take you have ever had, and you have had some real winners.

I'd give up a BYE if it meant we got a home game vs SMU and then got to play Boise State

And also, the conference champions only being eligible for byes was a big part of that. Arizona State and Boise State were always gonna be big underdogs, and Ohio State is arguably the most talented team in the country and they had to face someone in the quarters

Hell, it’s likely that Ryan Day and Chip Kelly blowing the Michigan game prevented them from getting a bye. They would have been favored in the B1GCG too. Hell, that way Oregon could have hosted a playoff game

I think they should go to 16 teams with 0 byes.

The home game atmosphere for round 1 was awesome. I would like to see them play the first 2 rounds as home games.

ASU and BSU should have never had a BYE regardless. That is part of the reason this set up is so flawed. Ridiculous those teams got BYE's over someone like Ohio State or Notre Dame

Maybe it was due to the overall blowouts but the only home game atmosphere that felt big was Ohio State/Tennessee and maybe that was because it was at night.

I say get rid of neutral sites until the semi's.

Not lack of prep, I equate this to say in a basketball game where you are running hard for the first half and playing well, then at halftime go in and rest and there is some delay forcing a longer halftime and then you have to come back out for the second half and you're not as fluid and loose. Try doing hard exercise for 45 minutes, stopping for 20 minutes then trying to go back out and do that same intensity you were doing. It ain't happening
The Buckeyes didn't seem to have any trouble doing this.

No real team is going to throw a game to avoid a bye. Not only that, but it means you would have to play 17 games instead of 16.
That first round game is like a scrimmage, a much needed scrimmage after having a month off. Please give me SMU round 1 in Autzen. I'd take that along with any other Duck
