TX / tOSU scores & discussion

Reed Timmer is a storm chaser. He has this vehicle that actually screws into the ground so he can sit right in the path of tornados.

The guy is pretty fun to follow and has a PhD in Meteorology.

This is version 1. He's up to 5 now (4 got washed away in a hurricane/flood).

Screwed into a ground or not. If that thing takes a direct hit from a strong enough tornado, it's gone

I've seen documentaries on that car, and it's actually pretty tornado proof. By lowering itself and anchoring to the ground it is pretyt much windproof, there isn't any lift generated since he can put it almost into the ground.

Debris is another issue, but that's why it is as low profile as possible. Pretty cool, but I hope he has a good porta-potty in there because I'd be shitting myself if I were in there during a storm.

I'm just saying, I remember the story when a huge tornado came through my area of Ohio in 1985. An empty dump truck weighing over 19000 lbs was found in another town 18 miles away. That was an F5 (when they were still categorized as such) so they are rare but those things can just rip up the ground from underneath you

For sure, looking at the earth scars after those major tornadoes...nothing is going to survive a direct hit. He knows what he is doing and how to stay on the edges for the most part, but it only takes one bad guess to be history. And tornadoes are so unpredictable that it's just a matter of time for most storm chasers that try to get that close.

Those flaps at the bottom on the sides seal it so that air can't get underneath it. Now, if the tornado picks up that dump truck and slams it into the dominator, then yeah, it's gone. It's not going anywhere from wind.

Tornadoes have been known to strip down feet of top soil. His jackscrews would need to get almost down to bedrock and they don't go that deep.

But he would need to be a direct, dead on, hit for that to happen.

Ok, back to the game . . . Texas now expects 3-6 inches of snow between Wednesday and Friday.

Texas does lots of things well, but snow is not one of them. This could be a nightmare.

Yup, some estimates are north of 10" here in DFW. Arlington is on the SW edge of the metroplex if anyone is looking at the weather maps.

With that said, like I told my kid yesterday the more doom-and-gloom the weather people put out the less impact we will have. Whenever they call for a foot of snow we get a dusting. When they say it will miss us, we get blasted. So this one probably ends up with an inch or so. On that side of the metroplex shouldn't be an issue and the brine and sand trucks have already been out hitting all the roads. I'm sure Arlington learned from 2011 and beefed up their readiness for football in Jan/Feb. I'd be more worried if this were up near the North Texas campus, that side of the metroplex is where the bad weather usually hits.

Even Bevo gonna be chilled

it's not snow that will make things crazy..it's the ice right?

It's cold down here near Galveston, but luckily no snow.. no ice

Yeah here the issue is the snow falls but ground is usually warmer than 32 so the base layer melts and becomes black ice over night. This stuff is supposed to start late Wednesday and go all day Thursday then get above and below freezing thursday night into Friday.

Very well could be ice, but that's why they brined the roads last night. Probably hit them again around the stadium each day to make sure there is plenty to protect from ice in that area.

I've been in Dallas during a snow storm and it was fucked.

Pay a bunch of Buffalo fans to go down to Dallas. They will take care of it

yeah i was going to make the trip up there for the game.. but i'm not going to drive up there with the weather like that. I still have memories of that huge crash pileup in that area from a few years ago. People died
