Looks like Bregman is this years version of Jordan Montgomery. Boras in his ear telling him he is going to reset the 3B market, hold out for the record breaking contract, don't sign early or back with Houston because the deal will come...and now it hasn't.
We are now at the point that the conversation has shifted into him signing a 1 year deal to try again next season, which Bregman is against. Now at the end of the day Alex is still already rich, going to get richer, but what a colossal mis-read once again by Boras. At what point do the top guys stop signing him as their agent? He's screwed around and kept Alonso off a team as well, when there was a massive market for first basemen with power! I get it that Soto got paid, but he was always going to get paid because of his hype and the playoff run.
My guess is we see Alex sign a deal like Bellinger got with the Cubs last season. Something like a 5/$180m with an opt out after 2025 and 2026 so that Alex does get that short team deal and try next year but it "looks" like a long term big money deal.
