The Incredible SpaceX Starship and a New Golden Age in Space

It was a test flight. 'Failure' is somewhat expected here and there. The data collected from failures is used to improve the future product where there are actual lives and payload at stake.

If there's gonna be 'Failure' you want it to happen in test flights.
Total agreement

Liberals like to say, "don't question the science", but questioning the science is exactly how you do science. Woke Boeing was in charge of stranding two astronauts on the space station. They should have questioned the science.

SpaceX launched the seventh test flight of its Starship rocket last Thursday, but lost communication with the uncrewed upper stage of the rocket that continues on into space. SpaceX said in a post on X that the ship broke up during its ascent burn. After the rocket lost communication, social media users posted photos and videos of what appeared to be fireballs in the sky near the Caribbean islands.

While they lost the Starship, the rocket's Super Heavy booster returned to land back at the launch tower, in SpaceX's second successful "catch" during a flight.

In this video the launch starts at about 8 minutes. The booster catch is completed at T+7 minutes. Best view of the booster return so far.

Musk said preliminary findings suggest the Flight 7 explosion was caused by an oxygen/fuel leak in a cavity above the engine firewall, resulting in a fire that overwhelmed the venting system. SpaceX is already gearing up for Starship's eighth test flight, with the next rocket and booster undergoing prelaunch testing. Musk indicated that the next launch could occur as soon as next month.

February 6, 2025: Week 3 Firefly Aerospace's Blue Ghost Mission Operations Update.
Three weeks into Firefly’s mission, Blue Ghost is already in a good position to perform the trans-lunar injection on Feb 8.

Firefly’s Blue Ghost spacecraft made a successful Lunar Injection burn on Saturday, Feb. 8, to begin its four-day transit to the Moon’s orbit. It will spend approximately 16 days in lunar orbit before beginning its descent operations.

No updates on Japan's iSpace Resilience lander which accompanied the Blue Ghost spacecraft on the launch rocket, and is due for lunar injection about this time.

Firefly’s Blue Ghost Mission 1 is just one week away from its scheduled Moon landing on Sunday, March 2, following its launch on January 15. It completed its lunar injection burn on Feb. 8, a four-minute lunar orbit insertion burn on Feb. 14, and a lunar orbit maneuver with a 3 minute burn on Feb. 18.

The lander is part of NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) initiative, that features advanced propulsion systems, precision navigation, and thermal controls supporting future lunar exploration. NASA and Firefly will provide live coverage of the landing, starting at 2:30 a.m. EST on NASA+, approximately 75 minutes before touchdown.

Japan’s second Moon lander, iSpace's Resilience, which launched alongside Blue Ghost last month, flew past the Moon on February 15 to continue its energy-efficient trajectory that loops back to the Moon in May for an orbital insertion opportunity. Touchdown is expected in late May or early June.

Starship Flight 8 launch on Friday, Feb. 28. at 6:30 p.m. EST

Firefly's Blue Ghost lander successfully landed on the moon, touching down around 3:34 a.m. ET.

SpaceX moves its Starship Flight 8 vehicle to the launch pad to meet its Super Heavy booster at its Starbase site on March 2, 2025 ahead of today's liftoff at 6:30 PM.

Launch scrubbed for today. NASA live coverage is so freakin bad; no clear updates on today's delay. Maybe Musk fired employees with a brain. I found an update on UTube that said tomorrow's possible launch may not be a go because of bad weather. :(

Today's Starship launch rescheduled for Thursday, 6:30 PM. Sure.
