RIP -- Howie Meeker

Condolences to Howie Meeker's family. He had a profound impact on hockey.

Met him once on the beach at Rathtrevor.

The first NHL analyst with a telestrator. Full of glee doing it spouting "like a hoop around a barrel" and jumping Jehoshaphat!

Recall him once saying that if he found himself about to be in a dust up, best trick was to jam the but end of your stick (still in you hand) as hard as you could into the other guy's grille.

I vaguely remember his name as a broadcaster, but his playing time ended before I was born as well. Based on what I read about him it sounds like he opened the door for the likes of Don Cherry and for that I'm grateful.
 
Rest in peace Howie Meeker. I used to love listening to him while he disected plays. My favorite was the Howie Meeker street hockey stick. $3 at Woolco when I was a youngster.
