I wish my cousin was getting married in CO...I'd be all over that.My wife's cousin is getting married in Colorado this summer. Money is a little tight for us lately. My wife's aunt offered us her Amtrak rewards points, which should basically cover a train ride to Denver. We've got $400 in credits from Southwest from a delayed flight home from my brother's wedding to defray the cost of plane tickets back. Two days in a train is probably not ideal, but the kids will probably find it fun for about an hour or two.
One other nice thing is that Ham is enrolled in the free national parks program, so when we go out there we can maybe get to the Continental Divide in RMNP. Didn't have time to squeeze it in when we were out there 2 years ago. This time we're staying in Estes Park, so we should have plenty of time to make the drive.I wish my cousin was getting married in CO...I'd be all over that.
Instead she is getting married in Ibiza, which I don't think we will be attending.
I've only hit up the Black Canyon in CO and it was not a long visit. I'd go back. Telluride is cool too.One other nice thing is that Ham is enrolled in the free national parks program, so when we go out there we can maybe get to the Continental Divide in RMNP. Nicer places in the Playa Del Carmen area.We are trying to do a quick and dirty weekend away for valentines day weekend/wife's birthday.

RMNP was nice, we did a couple of spots near the eastern entrance when we were there in '23. We were staying in Boulder at the time, so we had a bit of a drive to get there and then go back. I wanted to do the divide then, but I also don't know the road and didn't want to have to do some crazy drive back in the dark, since I don't know how well-lit the highway through the park is. My experience with Skyline Drive/Blue Ridge Parkway is that there's minimal lights and I'd risk hitting an elk or some shit.I've only hit up the Black Canyon in CO and it was not a long visit. Almost 2 full days. It's like a day or so to Chicago, and then another 20-ish hours to Denver. There's a couple different options to Chicago. I personally might take the less time one on my own, but I don't want to keep track of my kids for 4 hours in Pittsburgh and/or DC. Would just be easier to keep everyone relatively contained in the train. How long of a train ride would it be? I've never done Amtrak but i've wanted to
we were considering that too, but the hour drive from the airport to Playa isn't ideal.Nicer places in the Playa Del Carmen area.
Now I'm intrigued by riding in a train somewhere. Sounds like it could be a good adventure.Almost 2 full days. It's like a day or so to Chicago, and then another 20-ish hours to Denver. I've taken Amtrak once, from Philly to Greensboro when I was in college. Slow as hell, but it was nice in a way. You could get up and move around at least. Would absolutely have taken the train again over taking Greyhound, which I also did once.
it's not like you're trying to get the gas rebate from Nathan for You.Why is it so difficult to get paid for reimbursements? I literally filled out everything I had to do and yet for some reason, "You did not complete this form correctly"
We thought about round tripping it by train at first, but that's 4 whole days of travel. Don't know if we'd survive that. This would be my first time actually being on the ground in states like Kentucky, Iowa, and Nebraska. Now I'm intrigued by riding in a train somewhere. Sounds like it could be a good adventure.
Have to look at the routes as I think there is a stop not too far away the leads to Chicago. Probably wouldn't go too far with our schedules but it would be an experience. We thought about round tripping it by train at first, but that's 4 whole days of travel. Don't know if we'd survive that. I'm right on the line between New Orleans and Chicago. So we take the Amtrak to New Orleans on occasion. It's the best way to travel, IMO.Now I'm intrigued by riding in a train somewhere. Sounds like it could be a good adventure.
