Four Nations Tournament

Any in season exhibition in hockey is dumb.

One rut in the ice and a guy breaks an ankle.

One stick deflection and a guy loses an eye.

This is just routine shit that can happen even going 50%.

Just get rid of the dumb shit

Yes, I'm aware of the constant tinkering of formats. I'm in agreement with you on not holding a game every year. I don't know what they'll force players to do in those "off years", but I hope it doesn't devolve into swimsuit contests or poker tournaments.
It's a terrible bit of trivia: what pro sport is the worst all-star game? Watching some of my favorite players over the years, it seems like they're not really that into it either.

I absolutely love the fact zero, nada, zilch Capitals are in this thing. Rest up boys and hope OV doesnt party to hard during the break. 🍺
Also Tom Wilson should absolutely be on Team Canada IMO

Agreed. Canada is missing Tom Wilson's grit. Who on Canada's roster is going to be bodying guys on the boards for pucks?

If the games are wide open like a normal all star game, Canada will be fine without him; but if these games are tighter than that - which I think they will be - particularly IF Canada gets into the championship game, they'll be regretting not having Wilson in the lineup.

Or Carlson on Team USA? The whole thing is a joke, even by NHL All-Star standards.
The US roster construction focused on younger guys. Carlson is still a good 2-way D-man, but he'd be the oldest guy on the roster by at least two years. They left guys like Patrick Kane off the roster, too - in favor of younger faster 200-foot players. Which I think is the right thing to do if you're trying to win a championship.

Faber, Fox, Hanifin, McAvoy, Slavin and Werenski are every bit as good as Carlson at this point, but with more left in the tank. I don't have a problem replacing Hughes with Sanderson over Carlson either; but wouldn't have complained if Carlson was the choice.

Maybe in an all-star format, where everyone is skating and checking at 75%, this makes sense. For a real championship, the roster doesn't make a lot of sense. This thing isn't being taken as seriously even as much as the World Baseball Classic, which also suffered from personnel issues.

First shot of the whole tournament goes in. What a sign.

Canada owned that first period, but Sweden upped their game in the second.

Game has been legitimately competitive - way more competitive in all three zones than a typical all star game.

Brodin misplayed that 2 on 1 for CAN's second goal, but redeemed himself by potting SWE's first goal.

Canada looked like the dream team in the first period. They look like dogshit in the 2nd period

Tie game. Some good hockey.

Shea Theodore officially out the rest of the tourney from the hit along the boards the took from Kempe early in the 2nd. Looked like he may have fractured his hand/wrist trying to brace himself.
