7 SEC Teams Make The Sweet Sixteen

No one is staring it as fact as much of its trending and looks strongly to continue.
lol, way to go out on a limb there, sparky.

and one year isn't a trend. if this result repeats again next year, then we can have a serious discussion about it. until then it's total conjecture.

The SEC just had an unbelievably good year, almost all teams performed at or beyond expectations.

Clayton Jr might be the best player in the country and he wasn't even on any pre-season AA lists. And without him they're definitely not playing right now.

He was the 69th best player from the portal from 2023 and some of the players above him are laughable.

So it's not like Florida bought a contender.

I was actually not aware of this, but ...

None of Florida's roster is highly ranked in terms of HS recruiting or transfer portal.

If they win, they may have the lowest RCSI of any champion in history.

If I post something then it’s on the internet and that makes it as true as the gospel.

Whoever does the portal rankings pulls some real clown shots. Tonje from Wisconsin was ranked 296th.

Maybe that's cuz he was injured?

Either way, that's nuts.

They are the best this year. Everyone knew that because they played the best in the non conference and won. Unlike football when we were just supposed to take ESPN’s word and pretend it was 2016.

i'm just glad you didn't post another poorly written outkick article.

I think your requirement that 2 teams be in the final 4 is ridiculous. Duke, Houston and several Big 10 teams are very capable.

The Sweet Sixteen was a very good measuring stick and I do expect multiple teams in the elite 8.

It can be accurately stated the conference did not shit the bed and that was one thing I wanted to see.
I’m going to stand by this statement and add that Arkansas and Ole Miss could have easily been in the elite 8 as well.

At worse they didn’t embarrass themselves and represented well.

If it wasn't for Sparty, I'd be rooting for an all SEC Final Four

Absolutely true. Piggies led most of the game until they went brain dead. Sparty/Ole Miss was back and forth and not decided until the very end.

This could be said for several teams that have been eliminated. San Diego/Michgan, Baylor/Miss State, St. Marys/Vandy, BYU/Wisconsin, Houston/Gonzaga, Florida/UConn, Arizona/Oregon and for sure Maryland/Colorado State. Those were all one/two possession games and fortunes could have turned the other way. Even in their loss they represented well.

Then there are several that really stunk it up and/or had a horrible game in some form or fashion.

With 14 teams making the tournament I'd say anything less than either ... 1) two teams in the final 4, or 2) winning it would be a failure.

As far as the Big East, they have up and down years.

They're not really in the conversation as a conference anymore in my opinion in terms of # of bids and teams in the 2nd weekend. Year to year they can be, but when you have 11 teams versus 16 to 18, it's just pure math and common sense.
Are you a believer now?

They had an OK weekend.

They headed into this weekend with the real possibility of 4 teams in the Final 4.

And a small, remote chance of getting zero, and they got 2.

It's just math.

Overall, a monstrous year

It’s not just math because this isn’t probability where you put 3 red balls and 3 green balls in a bag and start blindly pulling balls.

They had to win the games against good teams that were highly motivated. The SEC except for a team here a team there has consistently shit the bed in the tournament and this year they were super close to getting six in the elite 8. That ain’t math it’s dominance when looking at conference performance as a whole.

Oh , don't get me wrong. At this point, they've had a monumental year.

But they realistically could have had 3 or 4. Alabama just came off obliterating a good team, and I think Houston/Tenn should have been more like -1, -2.

But yea, you can't take away from what they've done.

SEC is the goodest. They just annihilated the B1G champ, Big 12 runner up and Big East third place teams the last couple of rounds. Total routs I tell ya.

Seriously though, the SEC was definitely the best at the top. Not sure the others would dominate as much as the top.

I just want this on record, that in one of the other threads, I said in the first 5-10 or so games ( can't remember which thread) that if Florida got their shit together after one of their losses they would be a final 4 contender.. and I WAS RIGHT BITCHEZ!!!
