Thanksgiving with a side of COVID

just don't get tested

ever.

I haven't been tested, but I'd be interested to get a an antibody test to see if I've ever had it.

I get one for free when I give blood

We're hosting Thanksgiving at my house. We have about 15 that will be here. My oldest daughter is engaged and with her fiancé in California. But everybody else is at my house. My Mom is 80 and she has Alzheimers and fell recently and has a broken ankle. But we're still going to have Thanksgiving. The Governor of North Carolina has recently called for a limit of 10 gathered for Thanksgiving. Fuck him. We are still having Thanksgiving at my house. We will use paper plates and plastic utensils, have one server, wear a mask, check temps, but we are still having Thanksgiving at my house. If we get sick then we just fucking get sick. But we are having Thanksgiving at my house.
This highlights the sickness within the COVID fear... ...yeah, there's a chance someone could get sick from a Thanksgiving gathering (it could happen any year from any contagious illness), but what's truly worse?... contracting an illness with family present to provide love and support or living out the rest of your days in fear and isolation?

Saturday evening, I invited my 88 year old grandmother and 60 year old father out to dinner with me and my family. My grandmother has been quite fearful of catching COVID and was extremely hesitant to accept my invitation, but she ultimately joined me. She hadn't been to a dine-in restaurant since March. When we were seated, it took a few moments, but I witnessed a wave of joy in her as she sat at a table with her loved ones for the first time in a long time. She thanked me and hugged me as we departed for the evening. It was worth it. Fuck isolation. We're all dying and are all going to die sometime; what better way to go out than with loved ones at your side as you bring joy and love to each other?

how about option C: no one gets sick?

how about option C: no one gets sick?
Well, I believe God created illnesses as a form of population control. "No one gets sick" to me means "humans > God". ...No.

so are you against medicine and any treatment of illness?

....no.... Not all all.

Nope. God expects us to take care of ourselves to the best of our abilities and He also says we should love one another and care for those who need aide. Emotional and spiritual healthiness is every bit as important as physical healthiness. In the case of my grandmother, she was physically as healthy as one would hope an 88 year old to be, but she was broken emotionally and spiritually. We must not completely sacrifice emotional and spiritual healthiness for physical healthiness. Deploy balanced health.

I'm dealing with two interwoven topics. What specifically did I fail to explain clearly?

you can't claim illness is God's way of keeping us in check and throw out our attempts to survive it in one discussion and then say "medicine is good" in another.

They are the same thing if you think COVID is God's will.

We are God's little ant farm. He wants his little ants to grow and prosper and he loves watching his ants do it, but he also likes to challenge his ants to see how they respond. Sometimes he shakes the farm to see how they'll rebuild and overcome new obstacles and grow.

God uses illnesses as one way to shake the farm. Does that little analogy help clarify?

I was suppose to have thanksgiving with my parents and brother and sister and there kids. But now cases are getting bad again we may just do thanksgiving with my parents who I live with

I get your analogy and understand what you are trying to say...I am confused by this response when I suggested people don't spread the disease to other family members at Thanksgiving as opposed to the other options of "get sick alone vs get sick with family and friends present"

how are you not being human?

Not being able (or too scared) to go to concerts, sporting events, bars, restaurants, vacations, parties, family gatherings, etc. That's why I'm moving on with my life and doing as much normally as I can.

For those who have chosen to stop living life, that's their choice but the government should not decide for us

there's a lot more to being human that all those things.

Sure, you can be isolated and still be human technically. I'm talking about living life.

We are only here for a short amount of time. If you want to spend a big portion of it living in a cave, that's your choice.

But, those of us that don't want that should not be forced to live that way.

"Big portion"

It's been less than a year, bud.

Don't be so dramatic

The fact that you don't treasure every minute you have on this planet tells me you are most likely a hermit with very few REAL friends and family.

I feel sorry for you as I want to spend as much time with everyone in my life as possible before I'm gone
