A Wednesday Thread

Same thing starting to happen here... still glad we chose virtual.
He isn't in the same building fortunately, but school did a shit job of communicating

wtf GIF

She's now perfect for @Not Duke of Douchington

Yeah, it's part of the calculus of raising kids and having helpful family around with this thing.

One of my BIL's friends lost both his parents within a week of each other near the beginning of this whole mess. His dad was in an extended care facility, and died, with what could likely be natural causes, but dad also tested positive for Rona. Dude's mom caught it (most likely from dude unknowingly carrying it back) and died like a week later.

The guy was also sick, laid up at home for 2-3 weeks, if I recall correctly.
Yeah, once my dad is going through chemo, it'll be interesting. He... Not sure the best way to put this... Doesn't think covid is a hoax, but thinks it's political.

So, he doesn't care that much about the precautions, but I'd rather not bring it to him.

Seems like the schools in the area are just prepping the kids so that they know how to do schooling virtual. They all seem to have a convenient in service day towards the end of September. Wife & I as well as family members & friends think that is probably the funding time frame for both states and then they opt to go virtual or hybrid after that.

And here the quarantine is only if you're showing symptoms or have tested positive. So the call to inform you that your kid could have been exposed is just for informational purposes. This shit is going to get out of control pretty quick.

Can't speak for other states but Ohio does their count in October. However, speaking as someone in the profession they have made provisions that students can still be "counted" virtually or in person so I don't agree with that being an agenda item.

I agree Roy. IMO just a matter of time before schools start going back to remote learning formats. At work I am trying to be the calm voice of reason, but when as a parent I want answers and immediate action! Certainly not reasonable on my part. But my son's school could have handled the communication much better

It's out of the norm for our district to have that as an in-service day. May be wrong, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Wife is still struggling a bit with her vocabulary. She said that she had problems with some of the word games she had to do in therapy yesterday. One game she struggled with was coming up with a grocery store product for every letter in "grocery".

Little Guy is apparently trying to be as big as Lil Kobe by the end of the year. He was up almost every hour last night wanting to eat.
Lil' Kobe finally hit a growth spurt this summer. Up to about 65 pounds. Grew a couple inches as well. Hopefully it continues.

I am seeing a lot of places scheduling in-service days where they were not normally held. We have too. Our mindset is to give staff additional time to create online curriculum

As an FYI, for Indiana, the cutoff is 50% online schooling. So, that deadline would be more like sometime in January

It's weird, I go to wisconsin and they sell beer everywhere. Even the yankee candle store

Few cities here in metro area have city owned liquor stores.
If I'm running errands around Apple Valley I end up having to pay $2-3 more for every thing I buy at the liquor store. Stupid Apple Valley.

Indiana really doesn't matter as they've done eLearning in our area before COVID hit. Ohio was behind the ball in our area and had to come up with something once COVID hit. It feels like the Indiana schools are going to do everything possible to keep in class learning until they are forced to a hybrid or eLearning environment. Meanwhile, that sentiment isn't really the same for the Ohio schools in this area. Hopefully that is wrong or changes.

That's why we are visiting my parents now before school starts. Once school starts, not sure we'll see them for awhile. And if we do, it'll be their decision to come here knowing the kids are in school.

You were talking about hitting some deadline for funding right?

In Indiana, if a student does 50% or more learning online, they get 85% funding.

Was hoping we could get Ham into soccer again, but the club we were in last year cancelled the season for lack of coaching volunteers.

Looking into the local rec league now. The club wasn't meant to be super competitive or anything, we only signed up with them because it was like half the cost of the rec program.
