I hope you keep Gus forever. We've won 13 of the last 16, and his offense that was revolutionary years ago no longer is. You can do way better, which I hope never happens. Covid and his buyout may keep him around a bit longer. You guys do beat Bama more than anyone else, that's for sure.I'm for moving on from Gus eventually (this not being the year due to COVID and buyout) and I was for letting Arkansas take him. That being said Gus was the offense mastermind for the 2010 national championship, he has won two SEC Championships, he played for another national championship in 2013 and is 3-4 verses Saban.
Kirby's record and achievements aren't that much better than Ritch's when you look at wins and losses plus he can't beat Bama. Are we really that much worse off than Georgia right now? Probably not and we are freaking light years ahead of Tennessee, until last year it had been a while since we last lost to Florida and that was at their house with a freshman QB.
This is Gus' last contract and then we will move in a different direction but we could do a lot worse and there are plenty of teams like Tenn, Texas, Michigan and FSU that are proving that.
The comparison of records between Richt and Kirby is convenient way to put down Smart, but it's way off. I hear it a lot. Here's the facts. Smart won the East 3 straight years, was a play away from a NC, he's 14-2 against our major rivals - AU, UF, UT and the Nerds. That's something that Richt never sniffed. He's 19-2 against the East in the last 4 years. He's recruiting at a level Richt never did. We are in the national discussion every year, something we didn't have under Richt. We have the roster in place to compete every year, so long as he continues to evolve offensively. Since coming to Georgia, Smart has landed three No. 1 classes and one that ranked No. 3 according to the Rivals. All top 3 per 247 Composite. We will be top 3 this year. That's a level of players Richt never dreamed of. I know the W-L record looks the same, but anyone looking objectively at our program knows we are far better off. Look at the facilities, as an example. We've committed to $300 million in improvements under Smart. The buy-in from the administration that Smart insisted on is something Richt could never have done. If anyone thinks that we aren't better off than where Richt left us, let this sink in: Capital One, Independence, Liberty, Outback, Capital One, Gator, Belk, Taxslayer. Those are the last 8 bowl games that Richt took us to. Smart - Liberty, Rose, Sugar, Sugar, probably Cotton/Peach.
Richt started off doing great, but he declined rapidly. I don't see that happening with Smart. We've had a tough time getting a QB, but we are doing fine everywhere else. Get that fixed, we will be back in the CFP picture. Damn, I hate typing a "wait until next year" post this early in the season.
