what kinda pots and kitchen knives should I get my dear mother for krissmus?

I don't know how to shop for that shit

Go with a set of stainless steel pots. The Costco Kirkland brand is outstanding.

Spin on the knife thing: Get her an electric knife sharpener.

Otherwise your gifts won't cut it.

Or a nice piece of slightly overcooked bacon that is rigid.

Bacon and easy cheese is a delicious pairing
I used to like to put it on those long pretzel sticks...back when I was younger and could eat what I wanted.

Went to see a client who had a an issue with his garbage disposal. It worked when i did the inspection, and the house was vacant, and it ceased up over the 2 months between the purchase closing.

So I went by and got it running, buts a cheap pos. He asked if I could replace it for him, and although i dont typically do that stuff, i told him i really shouldnt. He said he would give me $150 to do and he would go buy the disposal.

The guy is in his mid to late 70's, and just moved here from out of town. He said he called someone and the told him $250 to do the disposal! It take 30 minutes tops. I told him "sure, im kind of slow, with the holidays coming, Ill do it"

I noticed a couple other things that were in the report, that he still have repaired. Gave him a list of other shit to get. So Im probably going to go spend a couple hours doing so repairs for the old timer.

Should get a check in the good karma column for being a hellova guy, right?

Nah.... you'll probably get a litany of complaints for not doing it right and shit... because good deeds and being punished and whatnot

Good to shop around for installation work.

Got a quote from company A to service the tankless water heater for $350. Called company B and they said they could do the annual maintenance for both the water heater and the furnace for $325.

Company A guy showed up claiming I scheduled with them. Told him to go away.

I hate those stupid little piglets. I dropped a glass down there a couple weeks ago and I'm afraid it's gonna magically turn on and grind my fingers to mush if I stick my hand in there to dig the broken pieces out 😭

It should already be ground up - unless you haven't used it in 2 weeks....

Could it be?

That actually makes a lot of sense. One good knife can cost more than a whole block. Sharp knives sometimes scare people, but they are so much more safe than dull ones.

All Clad is probably not a good idea for her because of the heft. Their hard anodized is lighter than the SS, but still pricey. Cuisinart seems to have similar lines to Calphalon for a much lower price point, but I don't really care for the weight/materials. My faves are carbon steel (that one is kind of a PITA to get seasoned, but once you do... one of the best pans I've ever owned) and cast iron for frying. For soups and long braises, Le Creuset or Staub are quality choices.

I'll check on the Calphalon stuff later when I get home. I haven't checked any of their stuff yet. I would get her an expensive set of knives if she would get her money's worth out of it, but I don't think she will. Plus i'd be fucking pissed if I bought a $300 set of knives and one of her dogs fucking chewed up the handle or some shit.
