December 1 morning - the end (of 2020) is nigh

Ham got started really young. I think sometime around 1 or so. Started her on avocado and sweet potato rolls. Moved up to cooked stuff like shrimp and crab, then started with the raw stuff after she turned 2. We actually had her second birthday dinner at our favorite sushi place.
That's similar here too.

My older two LOVE salmon. By far their favorite. They've been eating since probably around 2-3 like yours. That's why if they ever order cooked salmon at a non-sushi place, they always say it's overcooked. . .

Yeah, careful what you wish for on that tip.

My kids are sushi monsters and sashimi and nigiri aren't cheap. We had sushi for lunch and I was psyched that the place had a pretty good lunch special on maki rolls, which is what I got for everyone. I had to listen to Slink Jr and Slinkette bitch about not getting pieces. . .
We have a long way before they'd jump on the sashimi or nigiri bandwagon, methinks.

I eat anything. If I go to a really good sushi place, I'll usually just ask the sushi chef to choose my dinner. I've gotten some crazy and amazing things that way. That's how I ended up eating fugu.

Have you ever had uni?
A little uni in some dishes is pretty damn good.

Ham asks for tuna all the time when we go. She also likes the smoked salmon.

We'll have to see with Little Guy, but we're probably going to go down the same road. We start foods with the super basics anyway, so after he's been eating solids for a month he'll have had everything except for the seaweed.

Went to this place over the weekend. Had pan seared Elk. Was fantastic

Yeah, roe isn't really my jam either. Although if it is a tiny bit of it, I am alright with it.
Mmmm.

It's just briny goodness!

I go all out with the latkes and topping for Hanukkah, so I'm looking forward to that. One of my faves is creme fraiche, a little caviar and chives. Sofa king good.

That place looks nice. Cool menu.

It's about an hour and fifteen minute drive from me, so I think I'd have to stay at their inn if I was going to give it a try.

It was roughly an hour for me. The Inn is actually closed right now because of some mystery virus going around. It was a really cool environment

Spread Eagle Tavern? Wtf with that name.

Got the tree up and decorated last night. Dogs won't stop barking at it.

Made turkey pot pies out of leftovers. So fucking good.
next time find one without a birds nest.

Nice, and I'll tell you a secret (you may already know), a wine that costs that much out of the gate is almost certainly suitable for "cellaring." Really well made wines can be aged in the bottle under appropriate conditions for a LONG time, and the aging adds a subtlety that is out of this world.

I had a few bottles that I kept 20+ years and they were like NOTHING I've ever drank before.

If you have the patience, I HIGHLY recommend it.

Another cool idea is to buy your kids a nice bottle and save it to drink with them when they turn 21.

Place was originally built in the 1830's. People who have visited include Lincoln, Gingerich, Reagan, Walter Kronkite. The current owner used to be chair of the state GOP so there is tons of political memorabilia

Well you see some places like to add some style and novelty to their names. Not your fault, you are used to places called Pizza Hut

And before you ask, no @Fish they do not offer an early bird menu. Only old fuggers like you eat supper at 4:30
