Urban Meyer Superthread

Yeah, Tom Herman is a swing and a miss but that Athletic Director is really something else. Chris Del Conte is waddling around the 40 Acres like he's got an ass full of yogurt. He kicks his head football coach in the wedding tackle then just stands there slurring sweet nothings to the Horns faithful. Dude has a bulldog mouth and a puppy dog ass. Texas needs to give that bitch the bolt too.
I like CDC.. I think the hires and fund raising he's done so far have been terrific. He did fade in the background with the social unrest over the spring and summer.. People are blaming him for the Urban search, but he's never came out and said anything publicly, just like Urban hasn't. Things being this tight lid is just another example that he's the guy.

I see the guy a lot differently. I'd NEVER hang one of my top people out like this because (a) it's really bad business and (b) it sends a signal you're weak personally. Who would want to work for this cat after this SNAFU? I wouldn't and you wouldn't either if we are being given a choice of several jobs and we are really good at what we do. CDC has lost control; now he couldn't get a picnic basket back from Yogi.

My thoughts exactly. But I was assured by @Thiefery and @Codaxx that there is no point keeping Herman if he doesn’t make the boosters and fans happy.
It’s pretty simple. Recruits and players know that Texas isn’t happy with Herman. Not sure how he recruits with that in the public. What happens if they lose a game or 2 in 2021? Are the players going to listen to him?

This Meyer situation was a disaster. CDC at a minimum should have pulled out the AD/GM handbook and denied everything and professed undying love to Herman publicly, while trying to get Meyer and start building the guillotine for Herman in the shadows. Instead he gelded Herman in public and missed his target. I don’t blame him for trying to get Meyer, just the disaster situation he created. Not to mention at this point it appears that 0 planning went into this attempt and he gave no thought to what happens if Meyer says no

hey don't forget 1996 either bro.. you know ...that 10point win?
Oh Frost's first season at QB?

Arizona St sacked him for 3 safeties and beat Nebraska 19-0 that season.

19 points >>10 points

Arizona St. >> tejas
Y'all were undefeated, already penciled in for the BCS championship game and Texas ran down the throat of the black shirts.. NE was never the same after that. Hell Ricky then won his Heisman by handing y'all the first #L at home in I forgot what the streak was at that point... Texas underachieved and were huge dogs both games

Oh man. Know your history, dude.

1996 Nebraska football schedule.........

There it is. Just like I said. Arizona St beat Nebraska 19-0 in Frost's first year after he'd transferred in from Stanford as a junior. That would mean that Nebraska was not "undefeated".

Your statement that "Nebraska was never the same after" '96 is also false. In 1997 Nebraska went undefeated (Frost's 2nd year) and won the National Championship.

Was tejas in the Big XII Championship in 1997? Nope, your little brothers (A&M) were.
tejas finished 4th (in the South Division) behind A&M, Okie Jr, and Texas Tech.
Once again, just another example of tejas (4-7) underachieving.

Nobody underachieves like tejas. NOBODY!!!!

damn.. you got me.. well as long as we are underachieving we own NE? Once, if ever, we play to standards..we're doomed vs NE?

tejas finished 9th overall in the Big XII in 1997. Nebraska went undefeated, finished #1, and won the Bowl Allaince National Championship.

But "Nebraska was never the same after losing to them in '96" - Thiefery

CDC is doing this on purpose, he hates Tom and for that, Tom isn't returning. He made sure that 247 mentioned that Tom and his extension wasn't on him. Once a coach comes forward about the gig, CDC will smooth what just happened, over.. and to be clear I don't think this Urban thing is quite over.. this feels eerily familiar with his playbook to tosu from years ago.

But either way, Tom will be gone by the following Sunday of the last game. CDC has the money to make the change otherwise he wouldn't have made Tom twist in the wind the way he has since the ou loss.

Michigan won that title, no?

You got me there, dude. Since 1999 tejas reeled off 7 straight wins over Nebraska.

Congratulations. You're basically Iowa.

POST OF THE DAY

Michigan won that title, no?

They won the AP (sportswriters). Nebraska won the Bowl Alliance (Coaches Poll)

The Big 10 and Pac 10 refused to join the 'Bowl Alliance' which was established to match #1 vs #2.

The Big 10 and Pac 10 wanted to protect their coveted Rose Bowl. IMO, isolating their conference champions to the Rose Bowl gave them a better chance at winning national championships since they would only be playing each other (Big 10 vs Pac 10) and dodging the Big 12, SEC, and Big East champions.

Michigan beat #8 Washington St (21-16) in the Rose Bowl. Washington St had the ball in Michigan's red zone with 2 seconds on the clock, but the refs let time expire and Washington St was denied their last play. The majority of AP voters turned in their ballots BEFORE the Orange Bowl was played the following night.

Nebraska beat Peyton Manning's #3 Tennessee 42-17 in the Orange Bowl. Tennessee (SEC) was part of the Bowl Alliance which was formed to match the two best teams available.

Make your own call on whether Michigan or Nebraska was the better team in 1997. That I've seen only Michigan fans think they would have beaten Nebraska. Of course they do when they were hiding in the Rose Bowl and refused to play the best available.

That was actually the 2nd time with the issue of the Big 10 and Pac 10 dodging the best available. In 1994 there was a 'Bowl Coalition' that also intended to match #1 vs #2. The Big 10 and Pac 10 refused to join then as well. #2 Penn St won the Big 10 and beat #12 Oregon in the Rose Bowl.
Nebraska beat #3 Miami (Big East) in the Orange Bowl 24-17 and won both the AP and Coaches Poll national championships.

This is an example of tejas thinking they can have anything and everything they want because they have "more money and instate talent than anybody else in CFB".
It permeates from the top all the way down to the fans.

It’s not a given that Herman is gone. I think it should be, but we will find out. I am not sure CDC has the backing to move to a Plan B at this pt. I am somewhat suspicious that he made a mess of this in order to put Herman in such a bad position, that he thought it would force BMDs to pony up for Plan B. That is just my tin foil a speaking though

I'm just not sure there is a big enough plan B name out there right now. Franklin just mailed in a terrible year, so that's a hard sell.

Everyone is just speculating at this point.. had this been under Patterson or Perrin we all would have known who the coaches that were in play by now. Not sure why Texas fans are turning on CDC right now. Other than us being impatient as always.

I'm highly confident he's gone no matter what. CDC has yet to tweet about the team or to congratulate them on the wins streak prior to the ISU loss. Also, there were pics of him grinning ear to ear after that loss at home. I think he has who he wants, but just waiting for the end of the season to reveal it (tin foil hat on).

So the rumor that CDC and Art Briles have been spending weekends on the lake might have some meaning after all?
