It's a pretty big reason.

If I want to be put in a situation where I'm listening to other people talk about themselves, I want there to be an X in the top right corner so I can tap out at any time.

Again, I think you are conflating validation with connection. But I agree with you about doing without. Agreeing with you on anything feels very foreign to me.

a friend of mine broke out an old set of lawn darts at his college or med school graduation party at his folks house. It was pretty fun, to be honest.

met a friend of his sister's there while playing lawn darts, still friends with her today and we joke about how we met playing lawn darts.

The fact we're in a pandemic and essentially told to not interact with people outside of our households, unless out of necessity, makes it validation.

You've sooooooooo badly gotta let everyone know what your dog is up to and sooooooo badly can't do it via phone or the internet, because it's just so much more cool in person!

Everything about the "sitting in a driveway, talking about yourself" thing can be done at home, where it's smart. But you just can't get that cool factor!

I've set up a few zoom calls with friends. With above average weather we decided to take advantage and get together outdoors.
