Luka Garza so far this year

Everybody has an opinion on what "Best Conference" means. I've got one too. Top to bottom the B1G was deeper than the ACC last year. The ACC was top heavy with ranked teams. We'll never know since last year was speculative. At some point if you're the "Best Conference" you should win Titles. The B1G hasn't won one since 2000 MSU. In that same span the ACC has won eight. It depends on what "Best Conference" means. That has to be what "Best Conference" means at some point. Generating titles is the epitome of "Best".

I wouldn't have picked a B1G team to win it last year, but they undeniably, IMO, had the best conference. I think I'm pretty unbiased about things too. I'll tell you in the 2018 season, they were the worst P6 conference and that was with Michigan getting to the title game, and had they won it, it still would have been the worst IMO.

I'm not gonna argue about who's been the best conference since 2000, it's been the ACC given all the ridiculous success, but even though there was no tournament, like 95% of the season was still played. And I don't think there would be any metric out there to say the B1G wasn't the best.

Garza had 34 pts in 17 minutes of play which most of that came in the second half. I think he played about 5 minutes in the first half before foul trouble. Dude was lights out in the second half. Finished the game 13/14 FG. Guy is a beast.

Through 6

48 points per 40
15 rebounds per 40
4.5 blocks per 40

69% from the field , 67% from 3 point range, 73% from the line

I was thinking earlier, how it's a shame he lost probably 4/5 games last year and I think 4/5 games this year with the condensed OOC games. He probably cost himself about 250 additional points on his career numbers. That's not insignificant. I think he has a chance to be the B1G all-time leading scorer. With those additional games he'd be a lock for it.

Well he could stay next year just to make sure ... lol

But yeah realistically you're probably right. Say he missed 9 games at 25 ppg that's 225. He's probably about 900 pts behind Cheaney right now so if he were only 675 back with 27-28 games left itd be a lock. At 900 back Iowa basically needs to play all their games and then minimum 7 more between the BTT and NCAAT to have a shot. Even then he'd have to average like 32-33 ppg

This kid is a freak, he's not flashy just a fantastic all around ball player. I can see his game making it in the NBA, he's extremely versatile.

Hes really unique as far as comps go. His game is similar to Jokic but Garza isn't that level of passer while being a better scorer. I really can't think of a guy that's a real good comp honestly. Not too many 7 footers who can shoot from 30 AND score in the paintwhike getting you rebounds too. His athleticism is underrated but not elite so for some reason the NBA wasn't high on him but he will score at tge next level because he's so versatile

I wouldn't say he's a better scorer than Jokic. Garza turns 22 in a couple weeks, in Jokic's 22 age nba season he avg 18.5 ppg on 50% shooting from the field and 40% from 3. Against nba dudes. I think a pretty good comp would Frank Kaminsky. He's avg 10 and 4 in his nba career, while being able to shoot the 3. That's probably what I would expect from Garza in the nba in a best case scenario.

Garza has 20+ pounds on Kaminsky

I think Garza may be a casualty of the modern NBA game. Position-less basketball sucks, tbh

also, i was today's year old when i found out that Garza's first name is Luka, not Luke

Yeah, he's a little bigger, but I thought it was a pretty good comp.

If he can consistently make the 3, I think that'll help. But he is going to be a huge liability on defense.

which sucks

i always hear morons talk about how Larry Bird couldn't play in today's NBA, which is an entirely racially-based narrative.

Bird would be perfect for today's game. Shaq is the dude from the past that couldn't play in today's game. That big mofo would drop dead of a heart attack if he had to constantly defend the pick and roll or pick and pop

For me, basketball stops with CBB. Never had an interest for the NBA game.

I watch the Lakers and the NBA playoffs but not much regular season

I'm 60 and I remember when basketball had two positions. You either faced the basket or had your back to the basket. Garza is unique in that he can do both. He reminds me a bit of Jahlil Okafor, who was 3rd overall pick in the NBA Draft. Mainly because he has sensational footwork. But Okafor isn't an outside threat like Garza, but Garza has great positioning and footwork. But the NBA wants "positionless" players. Slashers who can shoot the three, but take you off the dribble and finish at the rim. It will be interesting when Garza goes to the next level. It depends on the team he goes to as to how he ends up helping them.
