Urban Meyer is telling his friends that he is going to be Jaguars head coach

I guess if he's going to the NFL, Jacksonville is a good place to start. Tons of cap space, #1 overall pick to go along with 11 total draft picks this coming draft, and relatively low expectations.

Meyer is a serial winner as a coach, and I think he will turn Jax into winners. Maybe not super bowl contenders, but a winning franchise.

It all hinges on whether Sunshine is as good as everyone thinks he is.

Yep his first task is pretty simple, draft Lawrence. Obviously he isn't the GM but I'm sure he will have a say. So after the #1 pick, how this draft turns out for the Jags it won't be his fault if they draft the wrong players but it still will have an affect on him and his performance so I'm sure he apart of this group. Now I think he could have a huge part in FA and recruiting players bc that's what he does best. We will see, usually the college coaches to NFL thing really doesn't work but it has before. He has to give this 3 to 4 years if they build this team up to start contending so this isn't some short-term job unless it goes to shit early and Goldilocks is a bust but I have a very difficult time believing that.

He's a superb talent evaluator. The offense he liked to run in college won't translate to the NFL, but I don't think it needs to.

The hardest thing about college coaches going to the NFL is the talent gap they benefited from in college doesn't really exist in the NFL...or if it does, chances are they got a job at one of the have-nots.

The other issue college coaches have is that their control freak atmosphere falls on deaf ears when an NFL team is full of vets. That shouldn't be an issue in Jax right away either.

It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out. I guess it makes sense. I never saw Urban as an NFL guy, but he's done about all you can possibly do as a coach at the college level, so why not give the next level a shot.

Bold of Jacksonville to hire a former tv analyst as a head coach. Lets see how that works out.

I could see this working out well for Jacksonville. It depends on what Urban Meyer does as a head coach. If he is smart he takes the CEO type head coach role and delegates things to good coordinators, then he can not endure so much stress that ended his stints at Florida and Ohio St. short.

If he tries to coach the Jaguars like it's still college, I don't see it working all that great and I don't think he will be there that long.

Well guaranteed now they trade out. Urban uses weak ass excuses to get out of jobs. He can’t run and hide from the Stache and I’m guessing Urban has a heart attack pre draft.

It’s hilarious how much you are holding onto Minshew over Lawrence theory.

Minshew is not a bad backup for sure

Urban can't coach a bunch of 5-stars in Jax

This is a popular narrative but he did not have 5*s at BG or Utah where he was still very successful. Florida was not in great shape when he took over and hasn't been the same since. Ohio State was under sanctions and coming off a 6-7 season when he took over.

Think maybe, just maybe, the guy can coach. Whatever you think of him personally, the idea that he just can win bc of recruiting is incorrect

I'll reserve judgement until next season.

Yes, he can coach college ball. No doubt. On the other hand, Saban couldn't coach pro ball.

I think Saban might have went back a little quick. Still not convince he couldn't be successful in the NFL bc of one bad stint.

Hmm, having the number 1 overall pick doesn’t count as having talent at Utah?

Hahahahahahaha

1) His opponents when he was at BG and Utah are going to be vastly different then the ones he’ll see in the National football league.

2) His opponents he faced while at Florida are going to be vastly different then the ones he’ll see in the National Football league.

3) Ohio State won the B10 the previous 6 years with tressel 2 years before he got there. Ohh, and his opponents he faced while at Ohio State are going to be vastly different then the ones he’ll see in the National Football League.
