Fine, it's Friday

Those Amish puppy mills aren't good...

I can't speak for the Amish, but I believe the people we got our dog from were Mennonites. They were strange for sure. But the set up they had was a lot better than I expected for a small puppy mill. The dogs seemed pretty healthy and free to roam around the yard they had. I will say they were pretty nice and seemed to care. They kept wanting to check up and see how he was doing for a few months afterwards.

Same. My parents wouldn't have gone for a puppy mill sitch. They are def a problem especially in Lancaster County but the place we went was Mennonite and seemed legit. Free roaming dogs and no poor conditions, and they also stayed in contact via phone to check up (yes the Mennonites can use phones)

I'm not opposed to adopting, but most places I've checked into require more work than it would take for me to get foster a kid. Fuck that. We've bought all 4 of our dogs. One was from a farm, one probably was from a puppy mill-type operation, and the most recent two were from reputable breeders.
it can be a pain, we did have to do a home visit for Murray which I found annoying, but.

There were places that wanted bank statements, ah no. Some I saw you needed to provide references they would check, again, no

Local Humane society is only a meet and greet, I figured if any rescue group gave me too much hassle. I did talk with place we rescued murray and mentioned maybe doing a virtual home tour (pre covid, I'm inventor of new ideas) and other things. Sure it just fell on deaf ears though. It was also frustrating because some dogs they'd take a dozen applications and they "chose" the best applicant. Felt like you were competing, I'm more of, first come first serve. Lucky for us, Murray didn't have any other applications (we initially wanted to adopt his sister, who had a lot of applications, murray being under dog moved me to him, I bet his sister doesn't need knee surgery....)

while i encourage adoptiong, I don't shame those who go differently. I also agree it can be a pain and some foster groups are their own worst enemy.

I'll probably look into adopting again when my Dane dies because our lab will likely have many years left in her at that point because of the difference in life expectancy. And I'd like our next round of dogs to be similarly in the puppy stage at the same time. I prefer dealing with the puppy stage at the same time for 2 dogs rather than splitting it up.

I'm strongly leaning towards a St. Bernard for my next puppy, so I'd definitely go breeder on that one.
You're a horrible human being

I know some places like the SPCA can be pretty insane. Which is crazy. Most of them have a surplus of dogs and should be handing them out much easier. I understand wanting to be a little cautious. You don't want the dogs to just end up right back in adoption. But I've known couples to get denied because they work a 9-5 job and aren't home 24/7.

But the humane societies around here are apparently fairly easy to deal with. Atleast what I've heard from people.
Yeah, I've seen that too, you'll be away too much...WTF

we do benefit from retired neighbor that we could put down would give dog an afternoon break.

Daughter told me she and husband are thinking of re-locating here after she graduates in May. Talked about babysitting our first grandchild, when the time comes. Yeah! ..... But in the meantime, she says, what about watching my (crazy lab) dog during the day?

Uh, no Honey.

Well I put some dish soap in the rv toilet this morning and filled it with water to clean it. Forgot to tell my wife, then she tells me I flushed that and put more soap in it again. I said you didn't sit in it did you, I forgot to warn you. She said no.

Well there's no standing up to piss in that small bathroom with that small toilet so I'm used to sitting down. I go in there an hour later completely forgetting what she said and sit right down. Ass and balls immersed in water and suds. Felt pretty good actually.

Internet down....work over.

Hate Spectrum but like them right now.

What a day when I came home from work. Won't have the step kids for 10 days or so. Their sd had symptoms Wednesday morning while they were with us and got tested yesterday and let us know around 5 that he had tested positive. We hadn't heard anything from him since we picked them up last Friday. Tried saying he was asymptomatic, but went to get checked out due to symptoms he was experiencing. That's definitely not asymptomatic.

Also heard some very disturbing news about one of my in-laws.
if i read further in this thread and the tea was not spilled, i will be very disappointed. i hope you did the right thing.

I think you're doing it wrong.

Just got the offer from MA. I'm going to request a modification to ensure I am supplied with a monthly allotment of a local delicacy.

If/when her whole family knows or brings it up, then I'll feel comfortable sharing. Part of the issue is some of my in-laws knowing and keeping quiet about what we were told yesterday.
